hard shifting

I have a slight problem... It's kinda hard to shift in to any gear, especially 3rd. when i shift into third fast, it grinds. but when evr i'm shifting fast, it takes a little bit of force. I have a S14. Any one know how to fix?? Thanks.

Try changing your gear oil, and if that don't work it may be time either for a rebuild or new tranny.

make sure you are not letting the clutch out until after you get it into gear. i had the same problem and figured that that is whats making it do that.

Seems more like a lack of gear oil or gear oil being old. If you can get the car on a lift look at the tranny and check for leaks where the propellor shaft slides into the tranny if you have oil all over the place you rear main seal is damaged and leaking causing you to lose oil and making it hard to shift at high speeds check the oil level on the side there is a plug open it up stick your finger in there the oil level should be right at the lip of that plug hole if you stick your finger in you should feel oil.

If you have oil and no leaks try changing the oil first I use MT90 but you can use any you prefer.

If that does not work then could be synchros but at this point if it is your synchros it would be difficult to shift even slowly. I have been through 5 missions becuase of the power level is ripping them apart so to make them last I have to service them regularly.

i have the same issue with 2nd and 3rd. I've switched oil and everything. I've pretty much narrowed it down to syncrhos.

anyone have any idea how much a rebuil MIGHT cost or where to get a new one?

It would probably be cheaper to get one from someone parting one out on the forums, if you were closer my friend has one in his garage and I know someone in Jersey who probably has one as well...

I usually put 2.3L but there is a Plug on the side of your tranny where you machine fill the Mission oil it should set level with the bottom of that hole.
