Unhappy hard shifts and grinding gears

My car has been shifting harder and harder for a while, i switched out the gear oil for some mt90. I'm afraid its time to fix it. My mechanic told me that the synchronizers need to be replaced. Whats my best option for fixing this...because im broke and struggling enough as is, I would definitely like to do the work on this one myself if at all possible.

Thanks

I'd just buy another tranny, should be relatively cheap and its not too hard of an install if you have the tools.

thats the thing, rev matching worked great for a while, but now its even grinding then. i'm working on finding a tranny (posted in wanted, and ive been asking around/checking ebay). what is a reasonable price for one? lets use 100k miles, everything checks out as a reference point i guess.
