I noticed that my tranny has an unusual amount of play in it. When I'm in gear, you can wiggle it around so much. Also, when I get close to the upper rpm's, my shifter will start to shake violently and makes it that much harder to shift...my tranny also makes a whining sound. It's not that loud but it gets annoying at times. I have a Nismo solid shifter but I feel like it's not doing much. I just bought new tranny oil that I'm going to swap in and also a B&M short shifter coming in soon. Would that solve anything? Any help would be great! Thanks in advance.

#2. I have the same symptoms, whining sound, wiggling and rattling shifter.

I happen to know that my tranny is weak and needs new synchros. But i'm not sure if that might have some effect on this?

PS, if you have a NISMO Solid Shifter, why buy a B&M .. NISMO is MADE BY NISSAN. Doesn't get better than that.

 

could my tranny really be that bad? it has about 75K on it and it hasnt been treated badly its whole life. does anyone know if the synchros affect the vibration and whining and whatnot?

and btw, i wanted to get a B&M shifter because my Nismo shifter doesnt feel so solid anymore. whenever i try to shift hard, my shifter feels like it's going to snap. i just dont like the feel of it and i've heard only good of the B&M.

 

1.) Dont shift hard.
2.) That whining sound is the bearing off the main shaft. Better replace that or your tranny is going to go BOOM.
3.) Replace you transmission mount, thats the reason its all over the place.

 

thanks a lot levi. when i said shift hard, i didnt mean it the way you took it. what i meant was shifting faster. bad choice of words on my part. nevertheless, thanks for the advice. time to put that on my to do list.

 

dont shift 'faster' either. shift just right.

 

im ordering a nismo tranny mount real soon, i guess thatll take care of the problem.

concepts14 - shifting right is hard to do with the the lever flying all around the place haha. ive been shifting super slow so that i can get it into the gates perfectly
