how to change auto tranny fluid? 91 240

how to change auto tranny fluid? 91 240

do i have to drop the pan or can i just siphon the fluid thru the tranny dipstick, if there is one? i seldom mess with auto cars thats why the dumb question also what do replace the fluid with? discount auto stuff or does NISSAN self their own stuff?

you are going to have to drop the pan. but you dont have to undo the whole thing. leave the bolts in the front on. loosen them though. and just let them drain. and then you fill it up with automatic trans fluid through the trans dipstick tube. i forget how much it takes...but put in one quart and then go from there. but remember...you have to check the level with the tranny warm and running.

any ole ATF will suffice.

thanx...would you know how to take out the rack n pinnion. what tools would i need and approx. time. im not a mechanic but i can do little something

your going to have to pull out the whole steering column. what do you want to do this for?

all i can say is make shure you have all your metric stuff, sockets and ratchets, combination wrenches and anything else. the more the better.

the boots on both side of the rack or cracked and it knocks when i turn. it sounds like cv joints but its rear wheel so i dont believe theres any cvs. is $70 a good price for someone else to install it? im gonna go rip one out from the junkyard and if its not impossible try and install myself.
