How to tell if I have HICAS?
Hey guys,
looked in some other posts, but really doesn't have anyone of telling if you have HICAS. Besides peeling out and seeing if the LSD kicks in, is there any other way of seeing if you have HICAS? Thanks

HICAS sticker on the car.
1. Power steering system with Super HICAS has a two notch dipstick. Non S.H. has a 5 notch dipstick.
2. There should be a HICAS solenoid on the left hand side of the engine compartment.
3. There will be a rear power cylinder that runs across the pumpkin.
4. There will be a HICAS light in the dash.
Hope this helps.

Well these are the VIN codes and they don't say if the HICAS is present
JN1 H S 3 6 P X L W 000051
JN1 = Nissan passenger vehicle made in Japan
H = Engine Type where H is the KA24E
S = Nissan 240SX
3 = Model change (0 to 9)
6 = Body type where 4= coupe and 6 = fastback
P = Seatbelt restraint system where S= standard and P = Automatic
X = Check digit (0 to 9 or X) where the code for the check digit is
determined by mathematical computation.
L = Model Year where L= 1990
W = Manufacture plant where W= Kyushu
000051 is the vehicle serial number.

(In the US) HICAS was only offered on 91-93 SE Fastback models. It was sold with the "Handling Package" that came with HICAS, Viscous LSD, a thicker rear sway bar, and stiffer springs/shocks (all above info out of my FSM). Contrary to popular belief, ABS was not packaged together,
Also, according to my FSM, it will be Idenfitied on the ID plate in the engine bay (but not the VIN). Third line on the ID plate, reads "MODEL":
SAMPLE: RMLKS13FU
R= Fastback. Nothing= Coupe.
M= KA24DE Engine. KA24E's will have a different letter.
L= Left Hand Drive. Nothing= Right Hand Drive.
K= HICAS. Nothing = No HICAS.
S13= duh.
F= 5-speed manual. A= 4speed auto.
U= Federal. V= CA. N= Canada.
My car, for another example, would be MLS13AU.
EDIT: The S13's came with a hydraulic system, with lines running from the PS system in the front of the car to the actuator in the rear.

I don't think you could get HICAS without ABS.
I thought ABS was part of the handling package that you had to order to be able to add SuperHICAS (Kind of like a pre-requisite). I'm again not positive but it seems like a 4 wheel steering system may rely on some of the same sensors of the ABS system... then again I may be assuming too much sophistication.
