rear end sounds?
92 Nissan 240sx se 5 spd. been hearing a lound cunk sound in the rear-end i have no clue where it's coming from.
When I go to shift into a gear driving normal. i'll let the clutch out. and i'll hear this sound from the rear-end and sometiems I can even feel it on the shifter... Would this be a driveshaft problem?

it's not from a 240, but here's a pic to give you an idea of what a diff is... it's in the large round housing, at the rear of the car, in between the two rear wheels... you can't miss it - the driveshaft runs from the transmission to the rear diff housing.

know how it works before you crack the case, get the FACTORY service manual. not a haynes. they suck
x.x i can't believe you've pulled a drive shaft & don't know what the differential is. see if there's a leak coming out of the 'pumpkin' where the 'bar' that goes to your wheels meets the driveshaft... you might just be low on diff fluid.
...serioiusly. DO SOME RESEARCH.
********** has an FAQ section. read it. all of it. it's got detailed how-to's. so do we here, just put 'diff' or 'differential' or 'diff*' and after enough searching. you'll find it. be willing to do some legwork & we'll be willing to help you.
