Tranny Issues

I just purchased a 91 s13 w/ 5k on the motor 30k on the tranny and 150k on the chassis.

I bought the car in NC and drove it back to NY, she rode good and I kept checking all of the fluids. Only thing now that I have it home and im startin to have fun with it, I noticed when I rev to anything above 5k and depress the clutch the tranny seems to "snap" forward or down.. Basically feels like hitting a bump. It causes my CD player to skip sometimes it slams so hard. Then going into gear its mostly normal. Just when I press on the pedal after revving hard for a bit it seems like its jerking in some direction. Also the car smells of gear oil all the time.. I don't see any leaks but the car smells like gear oil, even with 2 air fresheners in there.

What do you guys think?

if the tranny has to much oil you might smell it, it will come up through the shifter assembly, especially if you dont have that rubber boot blocking it off, set the car level and pull the side drain plug, let any oil come out until it stops and then plug it back off and the oil will be at the correst level. or if none come out put some in until it does so. also check your tranny mounts, maybe one is bad or somehting.

damn i want your body panels, theyre so clean! nice car

as for the pic, yea thats causing the smell, the boot should go upward and you will have another ziptie around the top to keep it closed, since yours is all torn in the middle thats where your smelling it from most likely. Not to mention it appears that theres a decent amount of buildup there on top of the tranny. Its possible that it was overfilled and when it heats up and expands that your smelling it. As for the clunking i duno about all that.

you need sub frame spacers.

thats what that "bump" feeling is.

The mounts are 160k miles old. I guess it could be the sub frame spacers. The shocks are new and i get this clunk over some bumps as well.. I don't think its the shocks seeing as they are new and it has some eibach sport line springs. Could this be the sub frame spacers as well? Any pics on where i would install these spacers? Links on where to get them? Thanks

Sub frame spacer humm. Thank you very much for the info I am having the same simptom and would never suspect of that.
Now where this subframe spacers go? and How and what I need to change it? Thanks
If you can post some pics even better.
Mine is a 1995 S14 A/T tranny KA-DE.
Appreciate any more inputs about this.

I have the 240SX official nissan maint. Manual and porbably use different name for this Subframe spacers because I can't find anything in the index with similar name.

http://www.splparts.com/

go there, go to 95-98 silvia, go to suspension, go to chassis bracing. Buy the blue ones at the top, they also have instructions.

thay are well worth the $, took me 15 min to put in.

I'm going full out when I do mine. I'm getting the aluminum bushings with the spacers=no movement.

basically the same conceptas what u do in the gym, its going to decrease the amount of free play in your rear subframe, it wont be able to move up and down so much. So basically it decreases "squat"
