tranny problems

okay, i just dropped my car like a week ago. before that everytime i stepped on the clutch pedal, i hear a grinding noise, almost like a hissing noise, like the throw out bearing is no good anymore. anyways, i woke up one morning to find that i no longer have 5th gear. i mean, literally no 5th gear!!! i can't even shift into 5th gear with the engine on and off. i tried pushing it into 5th gear over and over again, still it would not pop into 5th gear at all. Please help me here, and oh, my ride's a 90 nissan 240sx. Thanks!!!

Try un-bolting the shift fork and try moving the lever to the gear manually, use a piece of pipe or somethign if you need to aply too much force. If it still won't get 5th then your sequencer (I believe this is the name) is broken. Its the litle clutch that keeps gear at same speed. if its broken, pieces of it actually get on the wholes that the gear hooks in and stop it from going in. Take it to some trans shop. A re-build kit is not that expensive and I'll improve shifting in all gears since the kits replaces all the "Sequencers". good luck
