A buddy of mine got in a wreck over by my house, he called and said he totalled his car. So I jump in the 240, and haul *** out of my driveway in reverse. And then proceed to drive fairly fast through the neighborhood, now when I get out of the neighborhood I opened her up and noticed that I don't have a 5th gear anymore. There is no resistence at all when I go into 5th. >>>>>Fast forward 2 hours. I put my car in reverse, back up a bit, and then shift into 1st.....Car wont move. It's like I'm trying to drive with the ebrake on. So I try again....car won't move...stall out. So now I'm getting really pissed off! I put it in neutral and try too push the car a little....no dice. Finally after a few minutes I get it to go into 1st, but only after a loud CLUNK.

What needs to be done about this, besides the obvious of taking it to a transmission specialist.

Thanks

get a new trans. it will cost way more to have yours fixed than it will to have another one put in. and you can pick them up cheap, cause everybodys got one or two of'em in there garage. I have 2 on the floor right now. sucks that your not a little closer.
might wanna have a look at your clutch while you are at it. somethin sounds a little funny by the way you described it. better safe than sorry. no point in puttin in a new trans on a bad clutch component.

Make sure u have enought tranny fluid and thats in good condition too,the clutch might be the problem but if u say that the tranny sound like it "clunk" when u actually get in gears that probably means ur synchros are gone, try pumping the clutch too ,it helps u get in gears ,especially in cold wheather of cold transmission.

guy is saying he'll charge me 1100.00 to put a used tranny in. He's charging 600 for the tranny itself. Now I've put a tranny in a car that my friend had and the used tranny only cost this guy 300. Any suggestions before I tell this guy where to stick it!?!?!
