How do you tell that the fluid in tranny is full?

My car has the sr20 swap and a 5 speed tranny. When I'm driving the car, it smells like gear oil and its burning on the exhaust. I replaced the output shaft seal, but it started to leak the following day. Does anyone have an idea if something is missing? Or is it maybe just overfilled? All I did was pop off the driveshaft and then the seal. One thing: When the seal was removed, gear lube instantly started flowing out. Could possibly anything in front of the output shaft seal be missing that could be causing the leak? Please help, any info would be great.

Rear main seal

To check the fluid...remove the filler nut. It should be perfectly level, or as close to level to the hole as possible. BTW, make sure your car is as close to level as possible

on the filler hole, just fill it up till it starts to leak out of the hole.

it holds approx 2.5 liters of gear oil
