liquid gasket on aftermarket HG?

i have a sr20det and i'm puting a new head on with a greddy (trust) 1.2mm HG

i was wondering if i really need the liquid gasket between the gasket and the block?

the man says to, but i'm thinking that's more of a stock HG thing? i dont really see why it is really necessary, but i'm no tech.

Just burn the manual to stay warm, obviously you know more than the people who made your engine and can assemble it better than they can. From you last post about TDC and this one it seems that we all should have YOU write a correct Service manual for our engines, it appears you are much more knowledgeable than the engineers at Nissan.

Let me know when you have the new books done. I will take a few!

i was asking the relavance of the liquid gasket, because you dont need it on say... a honda engine... on my friends 700hp Z06... any diesel boat engine i've seen built...

Did THOSE manuals call for it? If they said leave it off, then you should leave it off. If the GODS OF NISSAN say for a proper job you need it, they probably know SOMETHING you & I don't and you should do it....

Why bother using the book if you are just going to second guess it is all I was getting at.

because i'm not using the stock headgasket. i've been told by numerous people that know what they are doing (seems that way atleast), and they said with the HG that i have, there is no need.. and they run this with no goo succefully.

i know the manual knows more then those people... i shouldnt take advice from anyone blah blah blah....

but i figured this was worth resolving... hence why i'm here., i'm here to get an answer, not someone whoring my posts trying to lecture me.

hes not trying to lecture you hes trying to save u the hastle of replacing a HG later. If the manual calls for liquid gasket then whats the hurt in buying a 3 dollar container of it and putting it on, it will save a lot more trouble down the road if you really needed it

the only liquid gasket that i could find to use with a HG was some weird pasty stuff from NAPA. it will work, but any other suggestions that are more recommended?

Did you try the dealer? I like OEM products instead of the aftermarket sealers.

wow Jon, who pissed in your cheerios? not that I wasnt laughing my a$$ off when I saw your post, but was that maybe a little harsh? You made a refference to another post, maybe I should look at that post and see what you were talking about to understand your reasons.
I am easily ammused I guess, but the part about offering to buy some of his "new books" put a smile on my face.

I was trying to be humorous, not offensive, but I guess its all in how you interpret it...

Here is the other post.

I say if the manual says it, do it.

Don't use silicone on a headgasket, what happens when you set the head on and it seeps in an blocks the oil and water passages? Stock gaskets have a layer of sticky **** on it so it won't leak, I have NEVER seen silicone used on a HG before, and I have done somewhere in the neighborhood of 10-15 headgasket jobs on 240s with no problems not using silicone.

I thought it was funny, but I was just makin sure he was being funny too, and wasnt really that mad about what the guy was asking. I wasnt trying to rescue someone from getting busted on, just wanted to help keep things light hearted and all that crap. I still laugh when I imagine someone sending out an email about" the "new manuals" being done and ready for delivery",.... hahahahahahahahaha.
