Angry My RB26dett has some heating issues...

I was doing some freeway driving (70-80) in about 90 degree weather when I noticed the temperature of the engine rising and rising to dangerous levels. When driving in weather that is about 83ish the car runs a little hot, but it is in safe ranges.

The car has dual 12" fans with an upgraded radiator...fluid was full and the fans were on so what do you guys think I could do to solve this problem? I’m thinking maybe get a thermostat that opens sooner?

I gotta get this figured out because it is only going to get hotter down here in Florida.

only thing I can think of is getting a cooling plate, that bolts onto the radiator support and prevents air from going over the radiator, getting a Nismo 160 deg. thermostat, and maybe a Nismo, or Power Enterprise or some sort of high pressure radiator cap. And being you don't really have to worry about your coolant freezing, run like 70/30 water/coolant mix, instead of 50/50.

Thanks for the ideas. I found a Nismo thermostat for $72 so I'll get that for startrs and maybe some waterwetter.

At this point I only have a boost gauge, but I plan on getting EGT, oil pressure, oil temp., and air/fuel gauges.

WHAT WATER TEMP GAUGE ARE YOU USING?

If its the KA with the Rb sending unit it wont read correctly, it will read hot as hell. You will have to swap the KA sender into the RB motor to get a true reading out of the KA gauge. There are 2 temps enders next to each other. The 2 wire is for the ECU...DON'T TOUCH IT!

Swap the one wire KA temp sender in plcae of the RB one wire temp sender.

That explains it! The car has just the normal KA gauge cluster with no mods that i know of. As of right now the RPMs are seriously screwed up (sometimes it says i'm reving to like 15k lol) and sounds like the temp. gauge is also messed up because of the sending unit.

Anyone know where I could pick up a KA temp sending unit?

What year is your car? They are different.

LS Auto will recalibrate your tach for a nominal fee.

Shrouds dont fit on RB motors!

His engine ISNT overheating, its his gauge not reading right.

You will need to either go to the dealer & get a new temp sender or NAPA/Pep Boys, etc... If it was an S13 I have tons laying around.

^ you say shrouds dont fit. But with a little fabrication anything can work. My friends RB powered Hatch that competes in forumla d and D1 has a shroud.

So know your **** before you speak.

What a genius, So true, put a little time into it, and you can fabricate most anything, especially (relatively) simple something like a fan shroud.

PLus, you can say it's a "custom" part
