New motor and new scars to prove it
New motor and new scars to prove it
Well I started the motor swap in my 93 GTI-R. What a pain in the *** that is turning into. First a couple of us donated some blood and skin to the Project Car god while trying to unplug all the damn wires and connections for the engine. The engine itself came out rather easy once we got the jack stands and the pallet lined up under the car. Of course something happened to speed the project up so the new (5,000km total) engine wasn't exactly finished yet but hey I can live with that. After the engine came out I found I needed to order a damn $60 brake master cylinder rebuild kit because my master cylinder was leaking which explains some odd braking lately. Couldn't see the underside of the master cylinder until the motor was out. Like usual most repairs on this car start with the first instruction being to remove the engine and transmission from the car. The shop ordered me the wrong alternator belt which doesn't surprise me much since I'm dropping the A/C at the same time. I'll work that out tomorrow though. Can't wait to have it all back together with enough new parts to justify calling it a new car. I should be able to run 1.2Bar or slightly higher now for racing and get the car to drop into what would be the 11's.
Well after waiting alot longer then I was supposed to for the clutch master cylinder and a few other bits I finally got the new motor and transmission bolted together, then the wiring harness on the motor and everything up in the car. I didn't get it bolted yet but in a way that's a good thing. Sunday morning I woke up at about 4AM because in my sleep it finally hit me that in the process of putting the wiring harness on the car I forgot to attach one of the two wires to the damn starter. I connected the power wire but forgot about the damn push on ground wire. SOB! Now today I get to take the motor back out of the car to connect one wire that I can't reach when the motor is in the car. I'm going to a HKS GT2835 turbo and a GTR FMIC here in the next week or so before I get it retuned. Should be about a month before I get it all sorted out but when its done all that's left to do is save up for a sequential trans from OZ for $3K and life will be great.

I'm sure 1.2 BAR on that car will be pretty fun to drive
