Newbe needs help
Hi guys, In my quest for a cheap and reliable turbo car Ive gone threw many choices but then I relized that I could do a 240sx swap So my questions are that If I do the swap and keep the boost to a very safe level, will this car be like a rx7 and always breack or will it prove to be a reliable car.Another question I have is how much can I put out of a s13 or s14, I just plan on doing bolt ons for now and raising the boost a little so im wondering what kinds of gains will that give me. My last question is how much would it cost to do the whoelswap, I can find a good 240 for around 3k where I live I just wanted to know the prices of some shops around here. I live about 40mins from LA and my friend said there is a good shop in LA that can do it but I have no idea whats its called so if someone from LA can give me the name and maybe the website and the phone # that would be cool. Thanks for your help guys

well a full swap with an SR will cost you close to 4-5k if you dont do the swap your self.
there are alto of places to buy a motor youy may want to call around to some of the local speed shops. www.unstable-hybrids.com is a great place along with www.heavythrottle.com
also have you drove a rwd car before this?

First off, RX-7's aren't always broke. I personally own two of them. I have a second gen turbo and a 3rd Gen twin turbo. Niether of which is broken and I have never had any trouble out of them. The reason that you see 7's broken so much is because of idiot owners that mod them and turn up the boost without proper tuning.
Now, on to your question. The SR20 engines are going to be able to handle more abuse than the normal engine and they do seem to hold up very well to mods as long as you don't get boost happy. I'm building an S14 now because they are so much fun to drive. I have a couple of friends out near L.A. who would know anyone that could do the work for you in that area if you would like. Just PM me and I'll hook you up with an email address for him. Hope that helps. Laterz.

There is a ton of potential in a sr20det.From just stock with a fmic upgrade(which will not come with the engine)you can boost up the stock turbo to 14psi safely and run about 230-240hp all day with no trouble. As for performance bolt on upgrades they are endless. The stock internals are good for about 450hp.
With a t03/t04 upgrade you can easily acheive 400hp for about $1100usd on stock sr20det motors.
Car $3000
Engine $3000
Turbo 1100(garett)
Fmic $800
Fpr 220
$1000 gaskets,plugs etc
$10000 you got a weapon.
