Radiator and other problems with installing an SR in an S14?
Hey, i just searched and not much came up, nothing that helped with my question. But i was reading an almost step by step guide to install an sr20, it was in an s13 if i remmeber right, but im wondering if the problem would be the same. They said that the USDM radiator shroud or some thing like that doesnt match up with the sr's fan and that you have to buy a new fan. is this true with the S14? And if so, how much are electric fans, and how do you wire them? They would have to be attached to some sort of sensor that will activate/deactivate them dont they? and the s13 Sr engine has a mechanical fan, so how does this work? I could be completely off here, and there is some sort of easy way to do this, but im just curious, and what kind of radiator/fans would work nicely in an S14 with a S15 front end conversion, with an S13 sr20 in it, lol that just sounds funny, And also, Will the motor mounts line up on an s14 when dropping in an sr? and are aftermarket motor mounts really worth it? spending like 200$ on Nismo motor mounts? if any one can answer my questions that would be greately appreciated, thanks. also remmeber, i want to eventually do an s15 front end conversion, so keep that in mind for the radiator issue, thanks!
I would say that even if your stock motor mounts aren't dying yet, that going with some Nismo ones at the very least would be a worth while investment. $200 for both and the tranny isn't bad and since the motor is out anyway why not? Beats lifting the motor to change them later.
As for the cooling situation, the KA fan shroud will not fit so if you decide to keep the mechanical fan, you will need the SR shroud. You can get them new here www.phase2motortrend.com or source one used from somewhere. If you go with mechanical fans you have a couple of options. 1. Source some stock electric fans from a FWD Nissan at the junkyard and wire it to a thermal switch available at Pep Boys. 2. Go with aftermarket fans like flex a lite that are sold with or without thermal switches. As for Radiators, the usual consensus amongst most is KOYO. The S13 and S14 radators are identical except for the positioning of the reservoir coolant hose nipple so don't worry about that. Just make sure to get an radiatr for the SR as the inlet is on the opposite side as the KA.
