RB25DET: please convince me!!!

I just bought a 91 240sx. what to do with it?
Heres my goal: A great street monster that can hold its own at the track. Horse power goal? shooting for 400. why consider the rb25det? Because I like the way a straight 6 sounds. Is that not reason enough to choose this engine? I have done my reasearch, and know the costs and relative technical "difficulty," But that sound... Someone please convince me why to buy this engine, or why not to. Thanks.

You shouldn't need convincing. The RB is superior to every other breed of engines made by Nissan, thus the name "Race Breed."

I would say you are already convinced to get it...if you hear a decent arguement beside "balance will be way off" or "I could get more power out of the SR with some mods" then think against the RB, otherwise....why not?

Like jonpowell said, it does add a tiny bit more weight to the front end, but its not that bad. The advantages of RB over SR is low end torque, and like you said the RB sounds amazing.

i keep hearing over and over how the rb cant really handle more than 400 hp. of course it is hearsay, but i cant ignore it. i guess it isnt a motor built for all out performance, seeing as though it redlines at 7, and comes with a puny turbo. i would like to see some dyno graph's of what it can do on stock internals before plunking some $$$ down. then if it can make alot of power, will the drivetrain bust apart? trial and error i guess..

Just look at the HKS Drag R32. That should answer your question.

As for stock internals, if the motor is in good condition, it can take a real beating, much more than the SR on stock internals.

Buy December or November's issue of turbo Magazine and look at the cover story. There is a GT-R running over 700hp on stock bottom end. I know a guy that has run 500 rwhp on stock block RB20DET as well....it's all about tuning and what parts you throw on.

I heard of a guy in Australia making about 431 WHEEL horsepower with stock internals....Whoever is telling you otherwise is LYING!

just make sure you have the proper tuning,a nd you can hit some amazing numbers on stock internals.

Oh yeah, there are 3 different main RB engines....the RB20...good for 400-500 on stock bottom end, RB25...good for 500-600 on stock bottom end (more with tuning, but not daily), RB26...good for 600+ on stock bottom end.

buy a sentra. and pull of a couple of plug wires. it will feel so goddam slow that when you get back in your 240 it will feel like 400rwhp.

Well, I will have a speakerbox in the rear, along with the battery and swome carbon up front. so the balance shouldnt be too off anyways. Thanks for the tips.
