SR20DET Red & Black top: Differences?
sup guys im pretty new to the nissan stuff and im planning to get a 89-92 240 fastback and swap in a sr20det but just wondering if someone could explain to me the pros and cons of the S13 Red and Blacktop motors? what would be the most benifcial motor to put into the 'sileighty' body style?

Blacktop is more expensive because it generally has fewer miles and is always a newer engine. Not just that, but according to some guys here in AZ...the blacktops are actually better when it comes to not having rod knock...but that's just what I was told.

LTS, wrong. Im sure he is talkinga bout S13 red top and S14 blacktop, BOTH of them have 205hp. No power difference at all between the both of them. They are basically the same engine...one is newer then the other and 200-400 dollars more. Is it worth it? Not IMO

just for extra added clarity, the S13 comes in redtop or blacktop. the S14 only had ONE motor (and please, let's not get into the whole Nismo 270R 'bluetop' thing). so there's no need to call it a 'blacktop'. it's just an S14 SR20DET. same with the S15. i think the throwing around of the term 'blacktop' causes too much confusion.

From wut Ive heard, the black top is built with stronger gaskets and seals, and the valve train is slightly more durable over the redtop (I believe they meant all black tops in that case ) but to tell u the truth, the SR is a nice engine, but for the price of the front clip, why not go RB instead?

One difference for the a/c is that on the s13 blacktop, the a/c mounting bracket is different from the redtop. So if you try to put a KA compressor on the blacktop mounting bracket, it will not fit. You will have to get a redtop mounting bracket onto the blacktop, then you can put the KA compressor on there.
