that what i heard, but you still have to cut the hood wit out custom mounts

-HyJynX- 02-10-2004 08:05 PM

The only thing you need to cut is the hood skelton, so if the CF hood has a skelaton you will have to cut that (not visible from the inside) And for some people they dont even have that problem (even with the R32 X-member) And yea, its the intake piping that hits, but for some people its the valve cover.

the RB is few more pounds then the SR i think the sr would be a better choice. rb is 2.0 a little more motor but alot more weight.

NightXCZ77 02-16-2004 04:20 PM

The RB20 is not a lot more weight...do some research before posting. The RB20 has more base hp than the SR...and is a 2.0L, but can be taken to a 2.4 which is far higher than the SR can go...they are also reliable with a stock block up to about 450-500hp daily. The RB20 is a great engine, and a lot cheaper than most people ever sell SR's.....get a Race Breed motor...their built to handle anything. Also, custom mounts allow you to not cut your hood....that's what they are made for.

do the custom mounts make the engine sit lower than using the r32 crossmember? i thought it would be about the same.

NightXCZ77 02-19-2004 08:06 PM

No, they make the engine sit lower.

hitokiri_808 02-19-2004 10:53 PM

how much do the custom mounts lower the engine compared to the 32 crossmember?

NightXCZ77 02-20-2004 01:19 AM

not 100% sure, but I am guessing about 1/2"-1"

Sil80guy 02-20-2004 10:18 AM

all I know is every 240 w/ an Rb swap I have seen with custom mounts, looks like it was meant to be in there!

hitokiri_808 02-21-2004 12:15 AM

clean is always good.

RB20DET IS A DIRECT BOLT IN AFFAIR.
ONLY MODS ARE CUTTING THE A OUT OF THE HOOD SKELETON AND ROTATING THE RACK SLIGHTLY FORWARD.

WITH MOTOR MOUNTS IT WILL LOWER THE ENGINE AND MOVE IT BACK SOME WHICH WILL ALLOW FOR NO HOOD CUTTING AND ALLOW YOU TO FIT A SMALL ELECTRIC FAN ON THE ENGINE SIDE OF THE RADIATOR (PULLER FOR BETTER COOLING).

RB20DET POWER:
210HP AT THE TRANSMISSION OUTPUT SHAFT
235 AT THE FLYWHEEL

WITH MY TIMING RETARDED TO 30 BTDC (15 BTDC = STOCK), A FMIC, AND A 3" CAT-BACK I'M PROBABLY IN THE 250'S MAYBE 260'S AT THE FLYWHEEL AND ABOUT 220-230 TO THE GROUND (THE G-TECH PRO SAYS 228HP SO I'M SURE ITS LESS THAN THAT BUT WHO KNOWS?).

Ok . . . so with custom mounts you don't have to cut the hood skeleton, but do you have to shave anything else? I think someone was saying something about shaving the exhaust manifold to clear the steering rack? It sounds like custom mounts are the better way to go instead of the R32 crossmember and adjustable sway bars. Which mounting kits are the best? I've heard that McKinney Motorsports makes a nice one, but I think it's for the RB25 . . . will this still work for the RB20? Anyone have any other mounting kits that they would recommend?

Thanks

NIGHT7RACING SELLS A SUPERIOR MOUNT KIT MADE SPECIFICALLY FOR THE RB20 AT HALF THE COST OF THE MCKINNEY KIT. THE MCKINNEY KITS WORKS WITH THE RB20 IF YOU GET THE RB25 UPPER MOUNTS. WITH CUSTOM MOUNTS YOU DO NOT NEED TO MODIFY ANY EXSISTING PARTS EXCEPT FOR THE FIREWALL IN THE CASE OF MCKINNEY MOUNTS.

This is a picture of our lower mount next to Unstable-Hybrid's lower mount (who recently went bankrupt from what I hear)...our mount is on the right and UH's is on the left.

Our RB20 kit - $350
UH RB20 kit - $450
