VG30DET swap in a S13

ok, i found this 1991 300zx Turbo that was wrecked and rolled over. all body parts are damaged, so the car is totalled. but the engine and all of its components are intact.

i can get that car for really cheap and swap the motor. but i dont know if its possible. (i heared it was done before) but not really sure.

has anyone ever swapped a vg in the 240? is it bolt on? will the tranny fit? driveshaft? gauge cluster? will anything fit at all?

please respond with the ups and downs and any info asap cause i only got until next tuesday to buy the car.

i appreciate any of your advices.

Moves to engine swaps. . because that is what this is! Please follow rules.

On FA there is a s14 with the swap, you'll need custom driveshaft, intake, many custom parts and fabricatiion such as motor mounts, etc.

In other words. . it's harder than a RB swap.

i heard its easier than an RB swap becuase the S13 chassis was the old Z chassis (not actually, but close). i think i remember vinnie saying all you need is the original Z driveshaft and its a pretty easy swap. piping is hard tho..... dunno if a VG-T fits because of thaat piping issue.

The VG30de/tt can all fit into the chassi of the 89-94 240sx......
All you need is the 84-89 300z/z31 "all mounts and brackets" and the z31 drive shaft.
Small problem with the tt is that you will have to redesign and fab new waste gates and down pipes, "slight clearance issues".
For those with he 95-98 240sx you can use all mounts and brackets from the 300z/z32, you will also need the z32 drive shaft because the KA transmission/driveshaft are different lengths. There are no modifications needed for the TT swap into the 95-98..............
These swaps for any model 240sx are extremely easy, especially if you can do them with datsun 510's..
These swaps are just as easy as SR swaps, all the hardware is readily available...........
Just to let you guys know Nissan simplifies the production line by designing a few chassis's. If you look at the wheel base length of the 89-94 240 it has the same wheel base of the z31. The 95-98 has the same wheel base as the z32..
Therefore all these mounts are compatible

What about the weight of the VG30DETT? Will it make the S13 nose-heavy, or am I wrong?

it's not much a big problem if that's what you're asking. i think relocating the battery to the rear and a few other parts brings it down to about what a RB25 would be like.

Well with a KA or sr20det the s13 240 already has an even distribution from front to rear......
Expect even more weight with a VG30dett when compared to the RB25det.
Only upgrade needed for the front end is a rienforced front anti sway bar.
The 240sx suspension was the same suspension used for the 300zx turbo, during the mid 80's.......
The battery will have to be relocated to the rear anyway in order to run the intercooler piping for single or dual intercoolers........
