VQ30DE in an S13 chassis
VQ30DE in an S13 chassis
Writing to see if anyone out there has done this.
I've seen the VQ30DE maxima motor swapped in a 2nd gen non-turbo RX7 chassis.. lots of power.. good torque.. better than the rotary.. Best part, there are ****loads of maximas, and there are a ton of those that have been wrecked, so the engines are plentiful in JY's... and for well under 100,000 miles, for less than $1000. Just have to source a 350Z tranny or one out of a pathgrinder.
So the question is, why has no one done this yet? Are the 240SX guys just too into buying parts right out of a magazine, or do USDM parts just not appeal to anyone? I guess I've been exposed to more DIY car stuff than this new "import craze", considering my car is 35 years old, but I would have thought with this large a user base that damn near anything you can think of has been done.
Could be wrong on this one...

Lots and lots of labor are needed to put in the VQ into the 240. A lot of custom mounts and all that. It's too much of a hassle and a lot of money. That's the reason a lot of 240 owners don;'t do it. They eitehr go SR, CA, RB, or turbo the KA to get the power they want/need.
thats pretty much what I figured. I guess I'm more used to the owners being able to do fabrication and that kind of a thing, or just doing it because it's really not that difficult. Squeezing the VG into my 510 takes custom mounts and custom hoses and rerouting things, but it's not really that big of a deal. Lots better power and very plentiful - which is why the VQ in the S13 would be sweet. Probably the same weight, if not lighter, than the KA24DE as well - with a ton more power, yet not as expensive as an RB swap, or even an SR cash wise.
Fabrication is not a big deal, that part I can handle. Making new mounts and stuf flike that is not a problem, otherwise I wouldn't even be inquiring about swapping this powertrain - I really doubt a VQ into a S13 is any more difficult than a VG into a 510, or a VQ into a 510 for that matter. I was curious to see if anyone had actually done the swap. It's disappointing to see that no one has, yet it has been done in RX7's and other FR chassis. No offense, but theres way too many people out there that own S13 and S14 chassis that do just bolt on stuff. Nobody seems to think outside the box here, unfortunately.
Regardless, thanks for the input.

I'm in the midle of swapping a n/a VG in to my s14. It has been built to be turbo'ed. there is no prob with fitting the engine in to the chassis. The problem i'm having is with wiring. Anybody can help me, i have searched all nissan messageboards and i can't find any answers.
