What Swap for my 1997 240sx???

Howdy. I searched the forum but didn't see anything pertaining to my question/opinion.

I know the SR20 is a direct swap and all but, like always, I want to do something a bit better. I was talking to this guy who had a RB25 in his 240. I forgot if he said it was a direct swap like the SR20. Is it? If not, what all would it entail and cost? Is a RB26 swap possible and is it even worth the additional price? What would this entail and cost?

Got plenty of more question but don't want to sound like more of a newb then I already do. Any opinions, advice, information, or constructive criticism would be appreciated.

well this has been answered before but ill help ya out.
The RB25 isnt exactly a drop in deal, You need to get a custom Driveshaft for it since the stock 240 one is a lil to short and wont work, also u will have u cut sum of the hood skelaton off (not noticable from outside) and there is a lil sway bar and steering coloumn clearence problem(Easily fixable with a LITTLE shaving). Those are the only mods really NEEDED. You can always get a engine/tranny mounts to let the engine sit a lil better, that will get rid of having to shave the hood and the sway bar(possible the stereing coloumn problem as well) I dont think its worth it for the RB26..first its costly..second u have to mod it to be single turbo not TT (basically like the RB25) Ive heard mckinney has a custom set up that helps ya keep the TT but i havent really researched it. In the end if u go with a RB25 u will be spending about..4500 if u do the work urself, but if u pay a shop to drop it in u can add another 1000-1500 to it. Hope i helped ya

RB swap into 240

Check out www.mckinneymotorsports.com, www.Night7racing.com, and www.osakajdmmotors.com, mckinney has install kits for u, and osaka sells RB25DET complet swaps for $2,500, plus shipping, has everything u need, except custom parts, also u can put a RB26DETT w/ a RB25 trans, wow think of the power!

Thanks for the links. I checked all 3 of them out. Now here is an another question. I see the Mckinney sells a RB25 motor adapter kit with custon driveshaft for 1150 (600 without driveshaft). That worth it? Is there some place that sells it for cheaper or should I just go ahead with doing the little shaving that HyJynX talked about?

You can get a lot more info here http://nissaninfiniticlub.com/forums...s=&forumid=135 read up on evrything u can, theres posts of how the engine sits with or with out mounts and a lot more info

Also www.supertunermotorsports.com, and www.unstable-hybrids.com, they sell install kits also,, unstable is making an AWD GTR kit for 240's thats insane!
Also Cameron at Night7Racing did his own Rb swap, and can tell u step by step instuctions, just email him and ask him!

From wut i have heard with people that bought mounts from super tuner, they werent happy with them at all. Cheaply made and not professional, Id only trust -UH- (i belive they only have RB20 mounts) and Mckinney (Only have RB25 mounts...ganna start making RB20 mounts)

Rb swap

I personally would go w/ the Mckinney, no matter what the cost is, those guys know their ****, on these cars...
And to get the motor set , I would go through www.osakajdmmotors.com, or if u want a GTR power, go to www.liberousa.net, they have a RB26DETT w/ RB25 trans, n oil pan, plus everything else, i/c, etc, like $4,200 +shipping, but damn a GTR motor would be badass, but as far as install kits go Mckinney.., Mckinney just finished a install kit for the RB26 that lets u keep the Twin turbos, cost ?

Mckinney really does know theyre sh*t, if i would go threw anyone to get mounts it would mos def be them. A lil on the pricey side but well worth it in my mind.

So besides the .1 more displacement and TT setup, whats the difference in the RB 25 and RB26? Internals stronger?

A friend brought up a good question, which I totally forgot. What about the wiring harness. Who should I go to to get it done? Would I be able to do it myself? Would I need a manual and if so where could I get it from?

RB wiring hrness

Once again go to MckinneyMotorsports, if u want it done rigth n and a 100% guarnteed start up, no matter what the cost go to Mckinney,, I am a low budget guy, and even I would save my *** to go w/ Mckinney's complete install kit,, motor mounts, driveshaft, wiring, and even the Greddy Intake manifold, they also make a custom FMIC kit for this install,, but so does www.Night7Racing.com, oh and a custom downpipe is needed too, but at least your insatll will be perfect, and clean, look like a pro installed it, just imagine RB25DET, w/ FMIC, intake, dpipe, exhaust,f pump, and maybe 10psi, I bet u would run a 12 1/4 mile maybe better, if u could get a 1.7 60ft, your car would be a bad *** ***** ,, so get it done, fire it up, and go "Supra" hunting, HA HA HA.....
Also u can put a Skyline GTR final drive in your r diff, u should talkl to Cameron at Night7racing, he did the RB25 in a S13, and hran a 12 in a 1/4 mile, on stock 7psi not sure of time, but look on the Nissan forum, he is NightXCZ77 or something like that,, u can email him too,, 15psi holy shat ! www.nissanforums.com, under 240sx, then under S13 , hoped I helped!
