who loves their sr??

the reason i am posting this thread is because i am looking into doing the sr20det swap as opposed to turbo charging the ka motor. now my question is whos done their sr swap and been completely satisfied? because ive read some forums about people complaning about getting their sr motor and recieving them with cut wiring harnesses or bad parts and so on. if i wanna do this i wanna do it right and purchase my motor from a reliable company whos going to provide me with a perfect working motor. so have any of you gotten your swap done really well w/o running into any major problems? if so let me know where you got it what you got and what you paid. thanks guys for your help

Buy from someone reputable and you will get a good swap-people by from places in canada or flashoptions because they are the cheapest, and of course you will have problems. The clip will save you alot of trouble, there's alot of parts you need that you don't realize until your trying to finish your swap, and then ebay and EMS parts from Japan will nickel and dime you to death. Check out my sticky post "used japanese engines" it will help alot.

Well, most engines coming from japan come out of the cars that are so common to them like civics to us. So it is kinda hit or miss, try and find a place with them in stock so you can inspect as much as possible, and see their return policy. Check the clutch and oil pan and little stuff like that but everyone i've talked to with sr20 swaps loves them, i'm sure you will just do your research, and if you live out west i'm sure you can find somewhere to get a good one.

if the ka is in good shape i would just turbo that... i just dont see the point in going down in displacement... ka-t's out of the box make a crapload more hp and tq than sr20's do... and you dont have to swap anything, everything works! if i didn't go rb25 i would have gone ka-t

i dont like the idea of turboing a n/a engine, i like how the sr was made to be turbo. And yes i lvoe my SR, its reliable powerfull has lots of potential, and plus the anodized redtop, and everything undermy hood looks banging

I'm in the process of legalizing marrages to your car in the state of Tennessee. I will be the first to marry my sr powered hatch. I LOVE MY CAR. I went through some issues with it, but to have it start the way it did I was amazed and still am everyday. The only issue with it is it falls to about 550rpm when I clutch at traffic lights but always idles back up. I feel safer driving it than my ka as far as reliability. It is much more intimidating than my ka, for a 2.0L to have a deeper throatier sound I was baffled but it does. Still impresses old folks (my dad), girls, and owners of more powerful cars

What are you going to be doing with your car? drift, drag, autoX
if you want drag(sr) your gonna what to upgrade that turbo and do alot of fuel work like injectors /wiring/head gasket... etc (you would have to do these if you went ka-t also, but you dont have to spend thousands to start off)
-drift, just keep the ka and get good with it ,seriously its not bad

in the end its your decision, your money, time, and headaches of working the bugs out
good luck with whatever you choose
