Yet Another SR that wont start!

Well my car has been giving me problems starting. When i first put the SR in my car i never had a problem. Over the months, i would gradually have a little more trouble starting the car. I would have to hold the clutch in and turn the key from the off to start position a few times to get it to turnover. At first it would only take a few tries... but then after a while now, it would take a lot more tries. What i did notice is that when it was really hot, humid outside, it would take almost 10 mins of off-start turning for it to start where as when it was cooler outside or nightime... it would either turnover right away or take like 2-3 off-start clicks to work. Well these past couple days it wont turnover at all. To get the car to drive I would have to pop the clutch. So I assumed it was the starter. Well i went to Enjuku, bought a used one, cleaned it up with special electrical contact cleaner, installed it, and still nothing. I checked that black clip that everyone says keeps coming loose and it is still tight on there. Checked to make sure the ground wire is firmly bolted on and its tight. So... i did some researching on the forums and people say check the inhibitor relay. So i took my friends off his 240 and plugged it in... sure enough, it didnt start but i notice i heard a sound that sounded like electrical current flowing through it. So i put my old one back on and still same result, but with no sound. So im like hmmm... i plug my friends back in and after 2 tries, it turned over! I was so happy. I thought i figured it out. Turned it off, and it turned again :-)... problem solved, right?? WRONG... i go to get something to eat... turn it off... come back 10 mins later, and still same problem! So i pop the hood, and didnt hear any sound when my friend turned the key, so i tapped it a couple times and i noticed when i tapped it, the current was goin through and it turned over! So i thought HIS relay was going bad. So we get it home, leave it over night. Come back... it turned over first try. I drive to nissan, buy a new relay and install it, and it STILL wont turn over. So we plug my friends into his car, and it starts right away... then we try the new one on his car and again, starts right away... not one time did it not start on his. WHAT THE HELL IS IT?!?!? lol. I cant figure it out. Im thinking of just running a wire directly to the battery to the starter and hopin that will fix it. Any ideas????

#1...There already IS a wire going direct from you battery to the starter. You are not having trouble with the power circuit but rather the trigger circuit.

#2 you need to track things through that trigger circuit...here is how it works, your KEY sends a +12V(low amp) signal to the clutch switch on the pedal...if that switch aint just right the signal wont pass. From that switch the signal travels to the relay, through the relay and to ground.

A totally different TRIGGER signal travels from the battery to the relays also and when the origional signal gets to the relay, the relay opens a "door" and allows the more powerful TRIGGER signal to go to the starter.

My suggestion is that one of 4 things is wrong.

#1 Bad ignition switch(where you put the key & turn) not sending the signal

#2 Bad clutch switch(not allowing that signal to pass when the clutch is in)

#3 Wiring is bad/going bad

#4 Bad grounds somewhere in the circuit to the relay.

Start with those. Dont just throw parts at a problem hoping to get it, figure out what the problem is & then throw the CORRECT part at the problem.

Randomly replacing **** isnt the answer.

you gotta check the wiring diagrams, find the one wire that sends a signal ONLY when the key is in the start position, trace it tot he clutch switch...see if it allows the signal to pass leaving the switch and then see if the relay gets that signal consistently....you will need a friend to help.

help hears my prob do you have any fixes cause im gonna crack soon

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, I tried to start my sr20 blacktop for the 1st time today and hears how it went:

1. Took the cam position sensor off and cranked it a few times to get the oil pressure up and make the light go out.
2. next i plugged the cpsback in and tried to fire it up, of course this took a few tries but i finally got it running and found a leak coming from the heater hose and a small amout of smoke coming from the ground wire that is coming from the block to the bulkhead.
3. so i shut it down to fix the ground problem 1st. this took about 8-10 tries "starting and then stopping the motor" till i fix it.
4. now i was on to the leakand shut the car down to do so. put a new hose on and tried to start the car. This is were i am stuck at. I tried to crank the car and all i got was clik clik clik, and the rpm needle shot over to the other side and stayed. I tried it agian and the same clik clik clik, but the rpm needle went back to 0. So i am thinking that it is the starter. I tried to tap the starter with a ratchet but nothing. I took the starter to advance auto parts and ran a bench test on it to me it seemed to do better than the 240 one that they had.

but either way my car has been down for over 6 months and now this i am getting really frusterated with this car. please help me fast!!!!!!!!

trying jumping the starter by touching the two outside terminals together with a long screwdriver if this turns the car over than u know ur problem is in getting a signal to your starter if it does not start than u have a starter issue perhaps a bad battery have u checked that?

I would start by hooking up a battery to see if it works. or getting a jump. try it if it doesn't work look elsewhere.
