Sealing The Tailights!

I replaced my coupes tailights a couple of months ago and I noticed that when I did, the black rubber like sealant around them was torn off. I need to know what that stuff is and what I can use to re-seal the tailights with because water has started to seap into my tailight assembles.

it is a black rubber heat activated butyl sealant. you won't find it at an auto parts store, but nissan should have it in stock.

hey this might be late but....

but i had a leak in the tail lights of my hatch. i took the lights off and bought some weather stripping from the auto parts store. u kno that black rubber stuff that comes in a roll with the sticky stuff on one side. u will have to trim it down to fit, but it worked just fine for my car. haven't had any problems. it is thick so it provides a good seal. and it is water proof.

What's wrong with silicone caulk? I've used that before successfully. Does it not last as long?
