*#%!ing ORANGE CONE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY!!!!

I was on the way out to the mountains Thu night, pretty dark, and out of nowhere is a big orange cone laying down in the fast lane with the base of it facing me. I saw it shortly in front of me but really couldn't swirve or do anything about it, so as time slowed down, I already begin to expect the worse. Then came the thunk, and then scraping from underneath the car. Waiting for the next exit, I'm already beginning to smell something burning...woohoo.... Finally exited, ran to the front to see my 2 month old rspec Greddy FMIC, and yep, as I had expected, the whole center portion was pushed back so it looked like a mild V-shape, and pushed back flush to the core support. but luckily doesn't seem to be much other damage. Well, the cone was still underneath the engine. I had to jack the car up to remove it. Looked in the engine bay,.... half of my power steering belt is flipped upside down on the pulley....and the fan belt was missing about 5mm on the front side. Engine side of the belt has several 2-3" long chunks missing.

Well, I was able to drive home slowly, and as I had I expected, I lost the power steering on the way, and man, it is a biatch to turn without it....=P. But, she got me home safe and now she's resting in my garage with a blanket and thermometer until she feels better.

Just thought I'd share my story with everyone.. Anyway, happy Monday!!! as I sit here at another day of work.

thanks, i hope it is too, I would have rather have been able to say i ran into a guardrail or something from trying to hard, but I guess considering that things could have been worse, the cone wasn't all that bad

This exact same thing happened to my friends celica on the freeway. The base of the cone was facing us, so the black side towards us. Saw the silouette when it was a bout 10 feet in front of us. "THUNK!...screeeeechhhh". Pulled over, the whole center portion of his bumper was gone, and his c/f lip was raped to death. He had just installed a custom DD turbo kit like two weeks before, and luckily the intercooler was not damaged.

ouch, lucky for him, my shop knows someone can will most likely be able to repair my intercooler, I hope so at least, cuz I really don't want to fork out another G to replace my rspec yet unless i absolutely have to....

the worst thing about it all was, yeah, when i saw it, about 10ft ahead, is knowing that I couldn't do anything about it except wait for the thunk and then u know what
