1992 Nissan 240SX

I am hopefully going to be buying a 1992 Nissan 240SX Fastback here in a couple of days and have a few questions. It is an Automatic with 164,000 Miles on it. It is having all the brakes replaced all the way around the car. Are there any recomendations on any thing to watch for on the car or are there things I should know? Also how long do the KA's last (Milage wise) if well taken care of? Thanks for your help,
-Craig-

Mine has 159000 miles and still running strong. My Ka seems to have been taken pretty good care of. I have the average tune up done at the recomended mileage and I never have engine problems (even though I usually practice drift just about every weekend). Ive only had tranny probs. But anyways.. hope u get the car, keep us updated

I own a 92 fastback.... watch for RUST!!!!!!!! under the spoiler, in the floors, and all over!!!! RUST RUST RUST, the engine is nothing, the KA is a worthless with that many miles on it, no RUST. Look at my pics and you will understand!!! NO RUST, OXIDATION, RUST!

Watch out for rust, check by the spoiler if you have the stock foam one, theres other spots, check the faq section theres more there than what I can think of right now about problem areas.

I have to disagree with Driftmonster about the KA being worthless though. My '91 has high mileage, 159,xxx something and its still running strong. As long as the car was maintained good the engine should still be good. Don't get SR happy and swap happy and doubt the KA. It's not the fastest but its a damn good engine.

Luckily there is no spoiler on the back but the bad part is that for one reason or another the brakes on it are stuck(to the point you dont have to brake, all you do is let off the throttle and it brakes for you) also I think I need new struts and shocks. Plus I think it has a blown head gasket! The good news is that the car is only going to cost me around $1700!

Where is the cheapest place to get a brake up grade kit and is it worth it to replace the head gasket? Also what is the bolt patern on these 240s because I have a 1996 Neon right now on 17" Motegi MR7's and am going to transfer these wheels to the 240 and I didnt know what changes I would have to make. Thanks,

First of all personaly I would not buy an automatic and I don't suggest automatic to anyone because the performance of a automatic 240sx v.s. the performance of a 5 speed 240sx is like night and day. If you can't drive 5 speed it's worth learning. But if you are buying automatic due to other reasons then it's understandable. But I will have to agry with most the people here....the engine is the least or your worries the KA is a good strong engine but check the body and frame real carefuly, rust, rust, rust, rust All the 240's from 1989 to 1994 had a rust problem and the all rusted in the same spots. Trunk/hatch, rocker panels under doors, rear quarter panel just before the rear wheel and check the frame beside the transmission and the frame around the gas tank area. Good luck

The thing is here in Columbus, IN it is almost imposible to find a good solid 240 so now that I've found one Im jumping all over it! I am planning on doing an SR swap and Manual conversion to it when ever I can afford it(Im only 16)! And also I will be doing ALOT of work on the 240 here in the week after next including full stereo with a Kenwood head unit and two 15s(removable of coarse) and a lot of other stuff! I still need some help on the wheel situation tho.

My 240 has 212000 miles on it,and it took two broken chain guides,a warped cylinder head, and a melted piston to kill it. This is a single cam moter though.
