240 car question

Hey there, Im looking to pick a 240sx 89 up, but theres a problem, the heat shield around the exhaust manifol/header is cracked and a little rusted. Now, I think the only possible reason for a crack would be excess heat right, so the radiator might be bad or....? So my question is......should i buy the car with that cracked shield, and what would be the possible reason its cracked?

Thanks

the heat sheild cracks because of vibration more so than heat... i would make sure the car runs and that it will not overheat... check all the fluids and the general condition of the car... just because the heat shield is cracked does not really mean anything is wrong with the motor... check it out first...

yeah - heat shield damage isn't a good criteria for judging the cars' reliability or condition. Check more important stuff, like condition of coolant, spark plugs, and the usual checks

Thanks, i though it might be a sign, lol. It seems like they either polished the **** out of the engine or replaced parts of it, the hoses look pretty damn new.

if you are buying t from a dealer... they always do that... black magic tire cleaner will do the same thing... it is just part of the detail process that dealers put used cars through... like raine said check the important stuff... but the best thing you can do is to take it to a private mechanic and have them look at it... most dealers will allow you to do this... sometimes it is free sometimes it costs a little... if you have a midas muffler shop around you have then do an under car inspection for you... they will check the brakes suspention exhaust and tell you what they find... if anything...
