240sx
I have been really interested in 240sx's as a project car for sometime now and have finally decided this summer to look into buying one. As much as I love the S14, I dont think I can afford one this summer, and I want a car to work on this summer. So I've decided on a S13. Now, I've been looking on autotrader and ebay, and cant seem to find cars that are good project cars to work on. I want something that at least runs, so i can learn how to drive stick...but I dont know where a good place to look for my region where cars are for sale. I also am wondering where is a website that has an extremely well organized database for information on the S13 and whatnot. I know this is a good start...but sometimes forums are a tricky place for a beginner to learn all he needs to know on something. thanks.

i have a couple of other questions:
What is the difference between a red top and a black top sr20det?
For a sr20det application, would it be easier to get an 89-90 240sx, or a 91-94? again...price matters most, so if it is cost efficient to get an 89-90 and work a little harder to get the engine swap done....than i dont mind (i love the styling on all years).
If i get an SR20det engine, do i have to get matching engine components, such as exhaust, clutch, etc.? For instance, if i put an exhaust on the KA engine before i do the swap, do i have to change it once i make the swap to sr20det?
thanks guys. i'm looking foward to being in heavy involvement with the great world of nissan cars and the 240sx/silvia enthusiasts!

The diff between the blacktop and redtop is power. The blacktop has more power than the red top. the redtop comes from a japanese S13 while the blacktop comes from a JDM s14. As for which would be mroe compatible, I'm not very sure. Anyone can correct me on this, but I think they have very similar installation since trhey are very similar engines, only that the blacktop is an upgrade. However, I believe that a blacktop will be more expensive since it is a newer and more advanced engine.
BTW, why ditch the KA?

There aren't any major differences between the s13 redtop and the s13 blacktop. They both put out the same power, the only real difference that you will be able to tell should be the mileage since the blacktops are newer. The swap will be easier for the years that came with DOHC, however the only things that really complicate the swap are the power steering lines, pump, and reservoir, which you should be able to find at your local junkyard or somewhere else. The other thing is the SOHC tachometer will not work with the DOHC SR, so you will need a tach from a DOHC (a 1991-1994 240sx or if you got a front clip with dash in place gank it out of there)...hope that helps some
