270r

Hey, if anyone else was wondering about the 270R, I was able to find out more about it. Nismo produced this silvia with 270 hp and 254 ft/lb torque making slight modifications to the sr20. It was also given a stiffer suspension, bigger brakes, Strut towers, Nismo wheels, and a new front bumper, skirts, rear and wing. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Remeber that whenever you see the number 270 next to horsepower for a japanese car, be suspicious. Its probably higher. The japanese have wacky emissions laws as you know, one of them is a voluntary horsepower limitation around 270-280. Which ammounted to the manufactorers simply writing 270 in the form and winking slyly. I am told this was recently repealed and is no longer law, since no one was following it, however cars from the last 20 years or so are probably in keeping.

It's informative, that's what threads on boards are for.

I agree with artic, like if he posted this on a MADD forum or something then he'd be out of place, but he's posting information about a Nissan that is closely related to our beloved 240sx. Information is always a good thing...

Its not a law, it was a "gentlemens agreement" between auto manufacturers not surpass 276 hp. They did this because everyone wanted to have the fastest car and to avoid what happened here with muscle cars they did this. The skyline doesn't really have 276, it has much more like 300. Japanese LAW would never allow that to be if it were in fact a law. Auto manufacturers just didn't want to spend the money keeping up with each other so instead of jampackin in the horsepower they made their cars unique in other ways, the FD as the corner carver, the NSX as the supercar killer, the skyline and the boost hungry maniac, things like that. Technology and engineering now is forcing them to forget this law since everyone is coming out with ridiculous horsepower cars. Hence the new rx7 is supposed to have 300 hp, and the new supra is supposed to have a V10. SO, just to clarify, it was never a law, at least not to my understanding. If it were a law, it would also never allow tunershops to ever be in business.

s13 240: ok thas coo, haha, my bad.

ghettostamps: exactly how it is/was. its amusing that they would even have that gentlemens agreement. sort of an honor among thieves thing in my opinion.
