My 1991 Hatchback SE 5 speed weighs 2860 without my fat *** planted in the driver's seat. Not sure where the 2684 number came from.

I think weights are always just a "good estimate"... many things can vary car to car. I've heard of some manufacturer's weight claims (dry) to be without oil, coolant, gas, even battery! Those can make up a bit of weight.... also aftermarket wheels, suspension, exhaust, all that stuff. Plus how full the gas tank is. 15gal can weigh quite a bit! Not sure about the 200lb diff you're talkin about here, but there are variables.

btw, Justin; how did you weigh yours? I have friends that do it on the truck stop scales. Is that the easiest way?

Yeah, a truck stop scale is usually the easiest way. The hardest part will be explaining to the scale operator that you want to weigh your car. Drag strips have scales as well... I've also heard that dump transfer stations will have scales and will usually weigh you for free.

That weight was stock everything and about 1/2 tank of gas when I first got the car. On the same scale one of my S12's weighed in at 2520.

Yea, I suppose explaining to the truck stop operator would be interesting, but do they shut off the scales when the truck stop is closed? I got the impression my friends went when it wasn't open and no one was there. Figured there was just an LED readout or something... I've always been too paranoid about a State Patrol (bastards!) bein there when I drive in and harassing me for nothin. But I guess I'm just a wuss!
There's also a dump right up the road from me (sounds charming, huh?!) but last time I went WITH garbage, the lady was a b!tch so if I go with nothing....... Well, good ideas anyways!

You'd have to find a freight terminal with a public scale - like at a trucking or moving company. I wouldn't try crashing a state weigh station.
