I am moving to LA here in the next month. My sister moved to San Diego and she had to buy a new car cause it would be too much to fix her's. I was wondering what I might need to do to get it to pass? or what they check, or any info on the emissions test and what to expect. Thanks!
if its stock, it should be fine. KA's sort of have a hard time passing the sniffer, so go out and buy one of those bottles of "guarenteed smog pass" things. If it doesn't work, you can get your money back for the bottle. A friend of mine used it on her 240 and barely passed as compared to wayyy failed previous test.

cali is the most messed up state when it come to inspections. you really need to make sure your car is in good running order befor you have it inspected. dont leave any non-CARB parts on your car, cause that is an automatic fail.
a few years ago bakersfield had some of the worst air quality in the nation but that's not the case any more. so although everyone complains about how strict the emission laws are they're at least it's keeping people alive.
i know of two high school football players that died my senior year be because of the heat and bad air. it was mainly the air that killed them.

I side with Ramos, I rather have clean air and strict emissions laws then die from smog. I went to Hong Kong during the summer after my Junior year in high school. Came back one month later with smog poisoning. Took me 2 weeks to get it out of my system.
yeah a tune up and a bottle of that combustion cleaner should be fine. also you might want to take the o2 sensor off and clean it with brake cleaner. unless it's bad then just replace it.
Where are you moving from? In CA, they check sniffer at idle, 15 mph, then 25 mph and I think 35 mph. The computer also checks ignition timing while the car is under load on the dyno. They also check for vacuum pressure on your gas cap and they look for modified parts to see if a referee has certified their legality.
TSI TEST and ASM mode1 are common tests here in california
ASM mode1 = we check at 50/15 and 25/25 for emissions such as o2, HC, CO, Co2 & NOx, only OBD-II cars are plugged into the dyno computer via DLC to check for timing. OBD-I vehicles and older are manual inspected and entered into the computer. vacuum pressure testing of gas caps is correct, but with the NEW update, we now pressurize the entire fuel system
TSI test = Two Speed Idle test at Idle & 2500rpm stand still (not hooked up to the dyno)

another false statement. Colorado is worse than California
