search google images for "s13" and "s14" and you'll see the difference in the style. The s13 88-91 was SOHC and the s13 91-94 was DOHC and the s14 is the DOHC. Plus there were two styles of the s13 there was the fastback and the coupe. Also there were two different styles of s14 the zenki and the kouki, depending on year.

hope that helped you out and with a little more searching you can figure out the minor details.

first post!

Well i am recently getting into 240sx. I am wondering why are people more into the fastbacks than the 95-98 240sx? I would like to know which is better for drifting and autocrossing?

For one, it is a hell of a lot easier to find the earlier 90's 240s than the late 90's, unless you pay more and look further...I found my '98 by chance, so you could say I got lucky...anyways, the earlier models are more readily available, cheaper, and lighter by a little bit, which makes them better project cars...just my thoughts

S13's are great for a first car. (my first car actually) - lot's to learn about, and not just the standard stuff. Nissan likes to throw alot of weird curve ***** your way so you'll spend some time scratching your head. Personally I'd look for an S14a if you have the cash, but if you need a car now for cheap - the S13 HB or coupe will do you just fine, and by todays standards are still very nice cars.

Just a heads up the S13 came in 2 engine trims, the KA24DE and the KA24E - try as best as you can to get the (I believe) 91 and up model, I may get alot of flack for saying it - but I just can't justify buying the SOHC motor, as compared to a year or two younger DOHC.

i agree with ArcherV20 on the S13 being a good car, but agree even more strongly with the want for an S14a. that car is the most agressive looking import from the 90s, and its exactly what i like in a car. its balanced, its small, and its agile. still, expensive and rare is the downside. *sigh*

personally im gonna spend more and look harder for the kouki.

i have an s13 fastback and totally love it. i personally like the sleek look of the car as well as the lazy eyes ;-p No disrespect intended to s14 fans (cuz i dig that car a lot too), but good luck trying to find one of those around that is in good shape.

do more searching and weigh your options. What factors come into play? $, availability of the car you decide on, and your driving style. If you come across a decent 14 for a good price, go for it. GL with the find!
