Advantages of an Auto?----Modified Mag

I was wondering if There are any advantages of an Automatic over a manual? I found a 240 I want but it has an auto. I havn't driven an automatic car in 3 years for a reason. But I thought I read that an auto on a 240 is better for dragging. Maybe i'm just retarded.

Just wanted to let u all know the new edition of modified mag has a kick *** sil40 s13 and a veilside s15.

A lot easier in traffic, overall easier to drive, no clutch to replace or to worry about. There are probably more but I'm to sleepy...

Automatics also have some nifty upgrades that are great for 1/4mile times. Upgraded torque converter, upgraded valve body, tranny brake. With the tranny brake, hydraulic pressure is held back from first gear for as long as you hold a button down. Rev it up to launch and let go of the button and you go.

Unfortunately I don't know where you can get a tranny brake that will work with the 240s tranny.

Is this just for the 240? I have "dragged" my friend in my manual Saturn and have done better than his automatic Saturn. Maybe we were just driving crappy cars and manual/auto doesn't matter in them, but I find it hard to belive from my experience that a auto 240 would out drag a manual. Or maybe I'm just plain wrong. If so, tell me, and then explain it. I want to learn.

At the lower HP levels you want to stay with a stick. However, when you start running low 1/4 mile times an auto will shift faster than a person could shift a manual thus improving your times. Have you ever seen some of the pro Import class? All those huge turbo supra's are rockin slushboxes.

Ummm, not really. I used to bracket race a 1975 maverick w/ auto. completely stock. With a completely stock auto car. you get the most consistent times. The mor emodified you become especially with a standard. The more chance you have of being inconsistent.
I would win tons of cash, because it was consistent dowm to the hundreth of a second. Every run just mash the gas & go. I would beat 10 sec cars with my 17 sec beater that I got for $50.

An auto wont shift "faster" when you start adding power. You need to physically make it stronger with , a better valve body, better fuid, ect....
