Altima v.s. 240

Hey, I was reading a forum at altimas.net (this one actually http://www.altimas.net/forum/showthr...5&pagenumber=1 ) and granted it is a altima site but the general consensus was that a stock altima could tear a stock 240 up. I disagree but what do the rest of you think?

Another thing, I have a stock 96 SE (except for a K&N and strut tower bar) and I know a kid with a 95 Altima with intake and exhaust and he swears he can beat me. Should I even try? I know I can out-drive him, but are the cars evenly matched?

Those guys are morons. I can't believe one of them can say the 240 is lighter but an altima will beat it cause it has a more eficient drivetrain Seriously Altimas are family cars. The new ones kick ***, but the previous generations are crap. Not a performnce car at all.

what they are trying to say is that the altima being that its fwd, has less hp loss in the drivetrain. as far as which one is faster, i'd have to say that if you compared a stock altima w/ a stock 240, the 240 would only be slightly faster. just because its rwd, and has a sportier gear ratio.BTW were not all morons

i think the altima guys are just mad because they can't drift or have the thrill of rwd that any 240 owner is blessed with, besides of course a ka24de 5speed altima might beet a ka24e automatic 240 , see thats how easy it is to say whos faster. i guess this arguement will continue till someone declairs a stock vs stock same drivetrain victory

alright then, lets settle this

i drive a 00 altima, stock

lets do this...i'm sure someone from the houston area will wanna go

maybe someone who is not banned from altimas dot net (he he he) can post something there....if no one in houston will wanna go then maybe someone else in another part of the country can hook up with someone from here and bring the digi cam and settle this once and for all

i'm still having to go with the altima

This argument/rivalry go on forever.

There's always gonna be exceptions, but I think the 240 has an upper hand on the older generation altimas, but the new ones, even though heavier, will win, especially those new 3.5 SE altimas.

Still like my 240 though. It's stylin

i'm not into the new bulky car look thats so popular in new cars now. The new Altimas are bordering on the boat status.
240s are sleek and sexy.

the older altimas from 93-97 are the best ones IMO, and would stand the best chance of beating a 240.

i think the 240 can take an altima. not a 2.5/3.5 but first gen.

especially dual cam S13's.
not that i'm biased or anything,
but with two less doors with glass.
weight distrubution on launch
and because i love my s13

i'm voting on the 240

omg i can't even believe there's a discussion here! the 240 is a sports coupe! not a family sedan! even if the 240's slower than the new altimas, give me the 240 in a heartbeat.

To assume that the Altima has less parasitic power loss through the drivetrain is nonsense. A FWD car loses just as much power as a RWD car. Maybe 1-2% less if that. A FWD car still has a transmission, and flywheel, a diff. and the output shafts to the wheels. The only difference would be the driveshaft of the RWD car.

240 wins, due to weight transfer and power to weight ratio.

compare the specs and decide for yourself. i'd have to say it depends on the type of race. on a straight track the 240 would have the upper hand. on a curvy track i'd have to go with the altima. theres not much difference in weight and it'd prolly be more driver skill than anything.

Wait, wait, wait. Did you just say the Altima would lose in a straight line to the 240, and the Altima would win in the twisties?? Thats pretty funny. I would have to think that if anything the Altima might take the 240 in the straights, I HIGHLY doubt the Altima can hang in the twisties.

I looked at the gearing rude. The 240 seems to be slightly longer as you go throught the gears.
