battery relocation to the hatch?

im going to be picking up a 240 this week. my car blew this week so i check on this 240 i saw sitting for months in a mechanics lot. i was hoping it had a blown motor and i could do an RB swap real cheap. well upon asking on it, i found it had been sitting there for 5 years. some old lady had it but she died and her son was trying to sell it but never really tried to hard.

it only has 25,000 miles and im getting it for $2,500. its a white '93 SE, its got the nice wheels and everything. its in great condition, it just needs a battery and maybe new tires.

well on to my question...i just put a new battery in my old car and i was hoping to drop it into my 240, however my old battery was top mount and 240's are side mounts apparantly.

what if i mounted the battery in the trunk and ran a wire to connect it? my friend has an integra and he did that in the interest of weight, he mounted it in the trunk on the right to counter his weight. you guys have any opinions on this? im sure the weight doesn't matter too much, but the only reason i would do that would be to save the cash on a new battery.

so the 2 questions would be....

1. any complications with mounting it in the hatch?
2. does it really help with weight that much?

thanks a lot guys.

a box with subs weighs more than a battery (not that i would put a system in a 240). I doubt it has anything to do with "weight distribution" in the car. It would be like having a box in your trunk (give or take a few pounds, mosty take). Anyway, as far as a real purpose for puttin it in your trunk. . . a lot of people relocated the battery so that they can place front mount Intercooler piping easier.

so in my situation where i have a free new battery that wont fit up front it seems to make sense to toss it in the back right?

If you go ahead with it, do it properly. There are battery relocation kits, but of course those will cost money which you're trying to avoid in this case. it's just that I think some hazerdous gases will get into the cabin if you don't have a vented box to put the battery in.....

what do you guys think tho, its been sitting for 3-5 years. it seems like there is no rust...im going to have a mechanic check it out, but all the ones ive talked to seem to be cautious about it. they all tell me i might be askin for trouble. wut do u think?

As far as the battery mounts being side mount, they are not. My 92 has top mount and so did my 89. Only things I would watch for on the sitting for 5 years is the gaskets could be dry-rotted and the car might leak. Other than that, it should be a-ok. I know summitsportcompact.com has trunk-mount battery kits

clean out the gas tank and flush the fuel lines. and with a full tune up it should be running like new.

yeah, flush the gas tank

I relocated mine, mainly for the audio system and to say i have, but also to make a custom intake where the battery was. So I'd go for it, good $30 investment. huge difference? No, but fnny when you pop the hood and everyone goes dude, where's your battery?

Lol.
