Bring the Silvia here!!

I've heard some rumors about Nissan's intentions to bring the Silvia here to the states. Has anyone else heard these rumors? We all know the import scene continues to grow by leaps and bounds everyday, and car companies are gearing there efforts toward this car segment. With the likes of the WRX, and soon the EVO, cars with exceptional power, handlinig and overall performance that are affordable for the everyday Joe, do you think its time we try and do our part as Nissan enthusiasts and at least show Nissan through email the support it would have for a car like our beloved Silvia. I'm not asking for you to sign your name in blood, I already have the letter typed out, its simple and to the point. But it would at least prove to Nissan that there is a demand, who knows maybe it will do nothing. But what if it does at least influence the thinking over in Japan. Whats the worst they could say.....no. Hell we've been getting that ever since the 240 was introduced to the states.

Here is what the letter says:

Hi,
I have owned many Nissans in my time. One of my favorite cars has always been the 240sx. Its great price, fantastic handling, and sexy looks said it all. I am a Nissan enthusiast and would like to beg and plead with you to bring the s15 from Japan or create a new s16 to bring over to America. The time of American muscle and the resurgence of the Japanese sportcar is upon us. Just look at the Subaru WRX and what they have done. Cheap, high powered and attainable by everyone. If you could do that with a s15/s16 Silvia and keep it under 25k there could be a great deal of interest in that car. Fellow Nissan enthusiasts feel the same way. Please bring over the Silvia.

Sincerely
Put name here

Copy and paste, re-write what you like, or write your own letter yourself. It doesn't matter. Its numbers that matter. I feel we owe it to ourselves to at least give it a shot.

Man I can't wait for the feedback on this one......lol. Ok guys and gals, talk to ya lata.

I love my car, but thumbs down to Nissan for making such a weak version of the Sylvia for the US. Sorry, I just had to vent that. I have a lot to vent about tonight. You will see in my other post.

I've been hoping for a Nissan rally car. They already have an AWD chasis to base it off of (skyline). If Nissan produces something to compete with the WRX and the EVO, I would definatley take the Nissan!

Well they said the new maxima is suppose to be awd, but that is not the rally car we are looking for. I think Nissan will gauge interest in bringing other cars to the USDM based on the popularity and following of the upcoming 350Z and G35 coupe. After they see the selling of these cars, they might bring back a second sports car.

It is due to the fact that Nissan almost went bankrupt just a few years ago with too many car lines, thus the reason for getting rid of all their two doors and excess "baggage" lines. So I think by us writing letters and all that good stuff, it wouldn't matter one bit, until the sales of the new coupes exceed their expectations.

BTW, I agree Frankie go drink a beer

I would like to sign the letter but I am caught up with my s13. I don't see them bringing the Silvia here.

We don't have the numbers like the VW guys.

Nah no more beers for me, what do ya think made me write it in the first place?

Honestly though, for those who think the introduction of the Silvia or some other variant will ruin 350Z sales....I say take a good look at all the 2003 350Z's that are gonna be sold. Oh wait thats right, you can't take a look at them....there all ready taken! You can't buy a 2003 350Z because there all pre-sold to awaiting owners.

Don't you worry, the 350 will sell just fine, without any sudden interruptions caused by a new line of car. Yes Vijay, I do agree with you that Nissan should be wary of making a lot of different cars all at once. They'er testing the waters right now. But I don't see how it can hurt to just write them with our interests or concerns. I just find it funny how so many ppl complain about how we were robbed blind when the Silvia wasn't brought here and how so many ppl wish they had an SR instead of the anemic KA, and now no one seems willing to just WRITE a letter. Go figure .

I agree, but think that the national convention itself would show the support that a 240sx still has in a USD market. I agree that a letter would help, but Nissan should alone look at how many people went to that convention and there are tons more that happens around the country, but i feel that we have no say in there doings but......

I will write the letter, ok mr franks and beans

Actually, I think it's hard for a car company to see a lot of interest in a discontinued car now and draw the conclusion that releasing a similar car in the present will mean good sales. My reasoning is that the discontinuation of the 240 contributed somewhat to its popularity now (if you can call it popularity, our cars are still somewhat rare). Also, I don't know if I would have chosen to buy a 240sx new. For the 20 to 27 thousand range, there would have been a whole bunch of other options to go for, especially now. Car companies usually base their success on the sales figures year to year of their latest model, which would explain the discontinuation of the Camaro and Firebird. I'm sure a majority of the US car enthusiasts LOVE the F-bodies, but how many of them would actually shell out their dollars for the latest model year.

I would love to see a 240 revival or a Silvia intro to the US, but I find it hard to believe it would really happen. But hey, you never know, maybe I'm just a pessimist.

I say send the letter, but i doubt they bring the silvia here anytime soon. The 240SX always filled the gap between the high priced Z in the RWD car line up. With the 350Z coming in at a low 26K there wouldnt really be room for a mid price 2 door sports coupe, since a mildly optioned silvia would easily hit the price of the base Z, and in turn take away sales. Also Nissan execs wouldnt bring just the turbo models over we would also get the non-turbos to which would probably take away from sentra SE-R sales, Last but not least it's quite obvious the SR20 motor is done on American shores. We are now getting stuck with these huge displacement non-turbo pieces of crapola due to smog emissions, which makes me doubt Nissans intent to bring a turbo motor here.

I think the only hopes for a silvia in this country would be if they were rebadged as the next Infiniti G20. I just don't think Nissan would sell an obviously superior car to the sentra in the same price class.

Thing is the car would cost more then the sentra. If oyu figure the price of the car, plus shipping/tranportation and import taxes the car will cost as much as a 98 SE did if not more. I gurantee you Nissan wouldnt build the car here so pricing wouldnt really be competitive in the US market.

that car would be off the hook... the s15 is really classy... but the thing is in my opinion... nissan has too many high class cars now... the altima is now in a class of its own... it use to be that corollas and altimas were in the same class, and maximas and camrys.... but now altimas are just kickass.... nissan would be taking a big risk right now by bringing those cars here.... plus if they were here... maxima and altima sales would go down... so in the end i think they would just break even....

We should be greatful they desided to market a version of the skyline here. But I would like to see an official Silvia here, not likely though.
