which car is better for a first car...

this would be my first car and ive basically come down to 3 cars. a 1995 acura integra, and a 1995 nissan 240sx. out of these two:

1)which has better reliablity?

2)which has better handleing?

3)which has more power?

4)i heard acuras and hondas engines can last upto like 250k miles and still run insanly beutiful. what about the 240sx?

5)which has the smoother shifting?

6)if anyone has any specs on these two cars(such as hp, torque, etc.) list them, if you can please.

thanks! btw im a newbie to this forum.

1)which has better reliablity?

a car is only as reliable as how well you treat it, but I've personally seen 240sx's redlined everyday of it's life abused and lasting over 250k miles.

2)which has better handleing?

180sx (hatchback 240sx) and 240sx's are some of the best handling imports ever to hit american shores.

3)which has more power?

240sx's in america has a ka24de motor which pushes around 150hp and is still faster than most of your ricer buddies cars with air intakes and exhausts, most honda civics start under 120hp

4)i heard acuras and hondas engines can last upto like 250k miles and still run insanly beutiful. what about the 240sx?

read above

5)which has the smoother shifting?

the 240sx shifts smooth but unfortunately i never drove a manual civic

6)if anyone has any specs on these two cars(such as hp, torque, etc.) list them, if you can please.

personally i think you'd be better off with the 240sx cause those are'nt riced out as much, plus it's rear wheel drive which is a plus for any form of racing, and with the sr20det motor swap crazy the ka24de can be found for as low as $400 with low mileage if something were to go wrong.

and power and speed is MUCH cheaper to upgrade on the 240sx

thanks! btw im a newbie to this forum.

thank you for the informative response! yea its between the integra and the 240sx but with your reasponse im seriously leaning(or should i say falling) towards the 240 sx. if anyone has driven both the integra and the 240sx, which do you prefer? it is my first car so i want something strong enought to handle my noobie ***.

btw, yea the thing that made me not want to go too much for the integra was that it is a car that seems to carry the definition of rice around its waist. the car looks good, but idiot people usually screw up good things and form bad stereotype...btw, no stickers here

edit: whoops i forgot to add. i dont think i can use the sr20det motor cause i live in california and i think i read that it can pass smog or something like that. wanna fill me in?

I never driven a Integra but i was kinda in the same place as u are. I was ganna buy a integ and i was just waiting till i have the money...then i fell upon 240s Started reading up on them..A LOT. Then found my new love haha. In cali..and in the whole US the SR is Illegal. Unless u wanna shell out the money to make it legal (i dont know how much or wut u need to do) You can get a crooked smogger to pass u and thats it...ur on ur own with the law. Becareful wut u do in cali! And the 240 is a better handler..its one of the best and affordable out there!

i think someone told me if i wanted the "sound of a v-tec" get the gsr. but if i wanted to put on a turbo then i should get the LS since the turbos affect them more. but they also said if i wanted HP without a turbo go for teh Type R so i can get straight HP with out a turbo. so i dont know which one, but i guess i would get a Type R or a GSR. as far as what im gonna do with the car...well i might just drag a few times at the local track(qualcomm or how ever you spell it) and thats basically it. i just want a car that i can push sometimes to have fun with it you know? sometimes ill want to just mash the pedal and just go all out on an empty road or something. no street racing here most likely, as i just read (in the september issue of Import Tuner) that in san diego county, even watching street racing will get you up to 6 montsh in jail and a 1000 dollor fine . kinda messed up just for watching

as for the space in the car: well i guess i could just scoot the drivers chair alllll the way back lol. whatever tho. if im gonna buy a car i AM gonna get in it so ill get in both and see if i still prefer the 240sx. and hey if my friends wanna ride, they will have to deal the the limited room in the back haha.

thanks guys.

you will be comfortable in the 240, but the rear persons wont..haha.

LS-about 140hp I think but you can get a GSR(VTEC) head and have an LS/Vtec, drop a turbo on it and you'll be good.
GSR- you can get a turbo and its low 12's with minor bolt ons.
Type R has good handling and a 195 hp engine..

I drove both be4 my friends got an integra 97

Hey!,

Well i could probably answer 2 of your questions with a few opinons.
1) Which shifts more smoothly
A) Im not baggin on the integra but shifting in an integra seemed alot more stiff, like it seemed a little more difficult to shift than a 240.
B) which is faster?
a) i dunno bout the ITR'S but i raced my buddy be4 coming home from work, and the 240 does have alittle extra kick plus where i live theres way too many integras and civics on the road,
(he drives an LS)

my two cents

sweet. all my questions are answered! haha! i even got another thing today that makin me think to get a 240sx over a integra...today(i love free trial issues lol) i got the september(as well as octorber) issue of turbo magazine and they were working on a 240(in the september issue). they changed the stock motor to a sr20det, replaced the turbo, swapped ECU's and some other stuff. ending number for HP was almost 330(329.8)!!! surprised the **** outta me! i mean, this would be my first car and i wouldnt want that much power since i am inexperienced and would prolly kill my self if i had that much power, but damn man, it really shows the potential of the 240sx and the motor swap and shows me that if i ever wanted to in the future, i can really make a fast *** car.

a big fat thanks to everyone that helped me so far! peace

Simple answer to your question. Go with 240sx or nissan period. 240 is known for its famous suspension set up, its handling, its ability to regain control IF there is a spin out, its abilitry to stay under control in a drift. Also look at nissan, TORQUE TORQUE TORQUE. We 240's have more torque than an s2000..... So honda and acura NO. 240 is also rear wheel drive if u didnt know since ur new to them, you will have awesome launchs and ALOT of fun in corners, and itll also give you this cool thing called traction which fwd honda and acura doesnt give you =D.

yea, i asked around for a cheap RWD car cause people suggested i start off with that since it is the hardest to drive which would make only make it easier to drive FWD and AWD. i see specs on the 240sx horspower and stuff but i dont really see any specs on teh torque. how much tourque do they have? i love the feelin of bein forced into the car seat when my freind mashes the pedle on his v8 explorer
