which car is better for a first car...
;D hm..
seeing in it i have a integra... (yea i'm just doin my research on this lil 240 cutie..) yea i was originally going to get a 240sx before i fell in love with integras..
i've never driven a 240 yet.. so i can only clue u in on one side of the story...
1997-98 & 2000-01
Type R 195hp@8000rpm (b18c5) 130lbs-ft torque
14.7 in the qtr mile, equiped with factory lsd.. manual only.. 1.8L DOHC
1994-01
GsR 170hp@7600 (b18c1) 124lbs-ft
15.5 in the qtr mile manual only, moonroof 1.8L DOHC
Ls & GS 140hp@6300 (b18b) 128lbs-ft
16.1-16.8 in the quarter mile.. manual/auto 1.8L DOHC
the jacking rate of the type r is really sky high.. integras have been one of the top rated auto theft items around.. its sad.. but its because anythign in hondas can be swapped with anythign else in the honda family.. a lot of stolen motors are in civics.. and it doesnt help that everyone is making hybrid engines... and there's that extensive aftermarket product selection...
if i were to compare these cars stock.. the type r is far superior to a stock gsr.. in a gsr all u really need to hang with type r's are would need suspension, good tires and driving skill... the shifting on the gsr and type r are pretty dam close.. so u cant really tell what gear ur in until u really learn the car(listen to the rpms, watch the speedo, drive it, live it, love it..)
integras are FF.. so u have to get used to understeer... all the weight is on demand at the front end.. steering braking acceleration... but it can be balanced out with some strut and sway bars... honda did this because i guess spinning out on a regular basis isnt so fun for the regular boring driver.... can't slide so great in integras.. so they're more for grip driving...
i had a chance to get a type r.. i denied it.. i wanted something i could enjoy daily.. not worry about it being stolen or me being stalked on a daily basis.. i'd think that u 240 guys have it easy.. for now.. all this hype about drift and such is really gonna get grimey... trust me honda's are overpriced right now... only because everyone wants them.. supply demand.. while i dont regret getting my car.. i would never trade it.. i would love to own a 240sx of my own though... best of BOTH worlds..

i just saw a really really good looking black 240sx today. it was the 2nd generation(i beleive, prolly like 95 or something with regular lights, not ones that pop up) and it looked really nice. they look better in person. anyways, thanks for reminding me about the theft stuff. i forgot that i should keep theft rates in mind.
Everyone wants a honda because they are easy to buy parts for and EVERYONE has one. All these kids wanna be like everyone else. They think can exhuast and clear tail lights are "cool". I dont know about you but I know for a fact how hot the sr20det is on the market. It is one of the most talked about motors out right now. When I pull into a shop, people ask me, do you have the SR20? Thats all I hear. Guys drive up in hondas and they are like, COOL TAIL LIGHTS. I dont know about all the 240 guys but I think all us 240 guys like our cars cause they are a challenge. If you notice on a alot of honda forums ive scene 90 percent of the guys dont know a thing about cars, they just talk about intakes and ractive mufflers. If you look on 240 sites they go into alot more detail on everything. Also we like something called TORQUE, honda guys sadly dont know what that is, they have to rev to 5 thousand and dump the clutch to get a somewhat good launch. I can jump on it at 3k and itll take off. We have more torque to the flywheel than HP. Ive driven plenty of hondas, the ONLY one that i like that has torque, speed, and good looks is my friends. He has the frankstein setup with a t3/t4 and that thing moves, but doesnt get traction through 1rst 2nd or 3rd. Please remember you are on a 240 forum.

ok i just had a suggestion of another car. the toyota mr2. is this a good car for me? i heard that its a really good car but that its not really for beginners. the value on KBB for a 1993 mr2 is like 4g's i think if i remember. so its still in the price range plus i think it looks killer. anyone have any expericene in this car? also does anyone have a site that i can check the specs on it? i found some but not sure if they are when the car was modded or when the car was stock. thanks again guys
edit: i just stared at a 1995 mr2 for like a minute and realized since it is a MR there doesnt seem to be much room where the engine is. so my third question is, is it still easily modded? cause i mean if the engine is in the front you got a good amoutn of room but in the back its cramped.

Its all in what you wanna do with your car. Buddy of mine from out area has a mr2 and runs low 12's with it.....Any car you can modify, just gotta figure out what your trying to do. I dont like the size of the mr2. The 240 to me is all around a good car, millions of parts and endless horsepower potential, good size, good quality, good looks, and u hardly ever see a nice one with a good amounts of parts on it, so when you DO pull up to a bunch of imports in a 240 that is set up, your the show.

yea the mr2 kind of looks like a death trap. i got anohter question about the 240sx. what is the difference in a s14 240sx and a s15 silvia? is there any difference in the body?(yes i know the s15 is not available in the us
) i looked at some pics but i didnt really notice anything different i dont think.

Wow man, u did not look at a s15 then, lol. go to www.heavythrottle.com and go to project cars on the left. Then look at tashis s15. He lives in my area. The front lights are different, all the panels, the tail lights everything. Of course the front end does look similar to a s14, still different big time. The tail lights look like they came off a grand am but way cooler
. And of course it comes with a s15 SR20det pushin 250hp stock and capable of 300 to 320 on stock turbo and a 6 speed tranny =). VERY nice car, I hope to import one some day =/ . Be a while though, maybe then a s16? Well good luck on ur choice, mine would be the 240 of course, i like to be different in the import scene. cya

they dont look insanly different to me but i guess its only cause im new to this car and havent been payin attention to them until like the last couple weeks but iguess someone who has been around them for a while can and does see a difference. anyways impretty sure i can say screw the integra. i saw a 240sx right when i exited my house. it was a gold colored 2nd generation one and boy did it look good. i started to imgine body kits and other **** on it. man it looked good. im pretty sure that will be my next car. anyways i got another question about the s15. how much do they cost stock in japan and how much would it cost total to import an s15 to the US and have it pass everthing? thanks guys
Please look on Edmunds.com
You can find everything you want to know. Uhhhh about the power loss, that's surprising to me, most 2wd cars lose about 15% from the crank, awd is closer to 20. My car loses 15. Unless I missed something, which is possible....

If your 6'4" PLEASE don't get a MR2
I though I woundn't fit in a 240, but got in and it fits like a glove! I'm 6'2" and it's one of the most comfortable imports i've driven/rode in! The Eclipse is super uncomfortable, that was going to be the car I wanted before the 240, along with a modded out Mirage(i'm a Evo freak) Del Sol (bigger than you think it is inside).
I've test driven a RSX and there nice as hell, but as far as driving enjoyment the 240 got it. I've drove my sis's SI manual and the first thing you scream is "Where's the torque?" A rwd car is a far more enjoyable driver, watch out when it rains!
If your still in limbo on what you want, go test drive the hell out of some different cars, you'll be able to tell the one you easily and quicker than what we can suggust.
Besides, this is the 240 forum, our opinions are gonna be alittle one-sided.

definatly go with the240sx if only on looks this car wins hands down. Over here in the UK we only have the SR version which pushes out about 235bhp as standard. Integras are still brilliant cars but will only ever stare at the rear lights of a 240. I've not long had mine and i've never been happier, the performance is mindblowing (160MPH WITHOUT EVEN REDLINING!)
Tegra's are getting waaaaay to popular and riced out, and both are reliable. I was deciding on a 6th gen celica, (94-99), a N/A MR2 a 240sx and a Tegra, and I believe I made the best purchase after reading and looking into them.
