Clarify sumtin for me

Ok, a friend and I got in an argument (ok, a fit) over what the differences between a coupe, a fastback, and a hatchback are. We both agree a coupe is a car with a trunk, but the glass doesn't lift with it. But then, he says fastback and hatchback are one in the same, a trunk with the glass that lifts with it. Example, a Civic Hatch and my 240sx (1990 fastback) are both hatchbacks, fastback is just another name. I say fastback has a trunk with lifting glass (my 240) but a hatch has no trunk at all, just glass and a panel (the Civic Hatch) Whose the right one?

If you really want to be **** about it, Your right. Hatchback is like the civic hatch and a fastback really is your 240. But I call it a hatchback...dont really care to much on tech. names

Most older people call them hatchbacks. Younger call them fastbacks( for obvious reasons).
But some manufactures call them differently( pending on who the car is targeted for).
They are the same thing.

Just like a moonroof/sunroof issue.

EDIT, like Hyjinx said. The civic is considered a hatch. BUT it is really a 5 door sedan. It isnt a hatch...it's an extra door. Why??I dunno. That is just what they call it.

sunroof: no panel to slide back to expose the glass to interior (glass is connected to panel)

moonroof: slide panel back to expose glass (glass and panel are seperate)

Think again.

Ford came up with the name "moonroof" back in the 70's. The names are interchangeable.

But technically. A sunroof has a metal top & a moonroof has a glasstop (so you can see out of it all the time).

Just another thing automakers do to try & confuse us.

if garret were the only ones makin turbines then the prices wouldnt vary so much
n garret sometimes refers to a name or type of turbine? not that actual company? thats my guess but hey im probably wrong. i'd jus go with HKS n make it simple haha

My friend has a 91 mustang coupe. He calls that a notchback. I thought he called it that because most stangs are hatchbacks and his is not a hatchback.hense the name notchback.

fastbacks have a seprate trunk,(look at the 68' mustang) hatches are like a 240/ 96& up civc (not the older ones cuz the glass goes up and the tailgate is like a truck)

68' stang...(fastback)
