cleaning...

i was wondering.. whats the best way to clean your engine bay? or more specifically the valve cover.. on the 90 ka24e, is the valve cover black? or is it supposed to be a silverish color? because either the black is coming off or it has so much crap the black is ontop of the silver..

thanks alot..

SOHC engines have a black coated valve cover with silver accents (I guess that's how you could describe it)

You can use Castrol Degreaser (purple bottle, yellow tip) to take off all the crud to see how much "black" is left on the valve cover (this stuff worked for me, but be careful - it'll strip spray paint if you get it on there LOL)... if you wanna go budget, you can use Easy-Off oven cleaner, which will also clean it up nicely.

for the KA24DE, on my friend's 89 we just took the spark plug wires off, but left the plugs in... then after the rinse, we used the heavy duty shop tpwels (blue roll) and wiped any residue from around the spark plug area, as well as the spark plugs themselves.
