Cupholder in a 240 FTW!!!!!
Cupholder in a 240 FTW!!!!!
coin/ash tray alternative.
As all 240 owners know and hate.....we have NO cupholders. OUR version of a cupholder comes in the form of pulling the coin/ash tray out and setting our drink there.
A few yrs ago, I came across a page on cardomain and this guy (Raine) had a pull out tray from a 95 maxima instead of the stock cd tray on his s14. Every time I went to the junkyard, I always took the time to search for a tray like it (AFTER searching for other parts that is), but with no luck.
This past Thursday, I happened to peer into the interior of a '92 Maxima out of curiosity. Lo and behold, the pull out ash tray was still intact and untouched. Took it off and installed into my s13. I think that the '95 Maxima had a tray, but it was only to put things into it and didn't have the cup holders (correct me if I'm wrong)
Here's pics of what I'm talking about.

OEM cd tray

what used to be the cup holder

looks cleaner than an open tray IMO.

front view. push to open tray.

pull out cup holder. there's two holes, but only the passenger side can hold a regular drink. the driver side hole will fit something the size of a redbull can.

in 3rd gear.

I had to dremel the dash trim a bit to make the stereo fit.
total cost = $4.99 at the junkyard
labor cost = $0
install time = 20minutes? includes taking the dash trim off and switching the stereo from the top mount to the bottom mount.
modification to the mounting plate = none. direct fit.
I might move it to the bottom and have the stereo on top. I wasn't sure if it would get in the way of the shifter and didn't even bother test fitting it. DOH!
no more "hold my drink *****"

thats a great idea. right when i got my car i was lookin around for cupholders and i was like wtf there arent any cupholders and this car isnt even german? now once i see this i relize i dont even have an ashtray.......
haven't hit it yet. but i guess it's because i don't shift like everyone else. i push the shifter in with the backside of my knuckles, except in 1st gear (where i shift normal, but haven't hit the tray as of yet). this thing is great! it holds the big cup from taco bell just fine.
