cut my airbox [pics]

i have an s13 and after reading Raine o1I2JI2aines post on cutting his airbox i decided to do it too. i was really impressed with the results. anyone who wants a better sounding engine should do this mod. the only negative thing i could think of would be that ur air filter gets dirtier quicker because of the extra exposed surface area, but thats negligible. my car sounds significantly louder and i want to say faster, but thats probably a mental thing. i love the way my engine sounds now, gives more of a growl above 5 grand. i didnt expect to really notice anything, but i can def hear a difference up top. overall took about 15-20 minutes with the right tools, all u need is a screwdriver to get ur box out and something to cut it with. anyway here are pics...

cutting with the dremel...airbox isnt hard to get out of the car at all

putting the airbox back in...notice how i left one side uncut to give a little support to the box, i dont think its necessary to completely rip the box apart.

airbox installed minus the filter and that little tube that comes up into it....

when i was finished i also threw in a new filter since i had an OEM nissan one, which means it mustve been the stock filter from 93 lol. im very happy with this free mod. u should all do it

?WTF is with the Air Horn? And why don't you just put some more thought on trying to improve that design..
It looks to me that you've succeded in sucking more HOT air from your engine bay into your Intake Mani..

its getting more air in there now than that little tube could bring in there.

also im going turbo at the end of the year so i see no point in buying a filter for a few months when i can just cut the airbox for free.

what lower box are u talking about? i know the s14's have the silencer but i only have 1 air entry hole or whatever you wanna call it. im just happier it sounds a bit louder than stock for free, i know i didnt lose any performance so im happy.

this is a silencer, it cancels the resonating sound of the intake.
