what is detonation?

 

thats when the air/fuel mixture explodes prematurly.

very hasardous to engine componets.
as we all know

 

how exactly will you know when your engine is "detonating"

 

when you have proper combustion the explosion absorbes the energy of the piston moving up and pushes it back down.
upon detonation the fuel mixture explodes too early cuz of incorrect timing or excess heat(incorrect timing) and can't absorb the energy. when this happens the piston dosen't stop going up and hits the combustion chamber. the abnormality of the explosion can be heard and felt. most of the time on an N/A engine timing is the colpret(sp)- actually turbo's too

does it make like "grudge" sound?? like a deep grind or something, also my car is eating up alot of fuel lately just everyday local driving my car is sucking alotta gas, maybe i need a tune up?

 

Getting it checked never hurts

 

Usually when a car is prematurely detonating at idle your idle will be uneven and you'll hear knocking and/or pinging. BTW don't worry premature detonation happens to a lot of guys

 

you should test your compression jonas

 

and secondary ignition systen ielug gaps, wires,rotor and timing marks
