Engine overheating
 

Hi Guys
I am having problem with my 1995 automatic 240sx. It starts and runs fine but my temperature gauge reads that it is over heating. I know that my car did it once before about two months ago then went back to normal after I turn it off for 10 minutes and no problems till now. I was driving my car two days ago and everything was fine. I then turn on my Air condition then the car started to over heat. I turn off the car immediatly. Waited about 5 minutes then started to drive and everything was fine. I went home to check my coolant and it was full, all belts where still on, but I know sometimes my belt squeek, if that makes a difference. Later that night I went to the store to get some milk and about 5 minutes of driving the gauge read that it was over heating and so I turned back home and never drove it since. Does anyone may know what this may be? Thanks for your help.

check your thermostat. it might be stuck closed

i vote thermostat, flush your radiator and clean it off but i bet it is a thermostat

I just change the termostat and the thermostat gasket. I top off the coolant. I drove it for about 5 minutes then the temperature gauge was reading HOT. So I am not sure what else it could be. Could it possibly be a water pump? How do I know if my water pump is good or not. Also after I pulled it back into my garage, I noticed the top rad hose was hot and the bottom hose (connected to the thermostat) was cool. Maybe theres a problem there? Thanks for your help

Release the air bubbles in your hoses, there is a valve on the top radiator hose where it connects to the block. But first you have to run the motor till its hot then shut off the motor and open the little vale until you see nothing but coolent come out.

I ran my car for about 10 minutes and it overheated again. I then open the little valve like you stated and no coolant or air bubbles has sprayed out that I know of. I ran the car again for 5 minutes and it over heated again. What should I do next. Thanks for the reply

i guess its water pump time

i had a problem like that before so i flushed the entire system changed my water pump and thermostat no problems since (the water pump has a hole on the bottom if it leaks that means your water pump is broken also refer to the thread entitled you know you have a 240 when.............)

One more thing I should add, I talk to a friend of mine to check if the water pump is working properly, take the rad cap off and when I reving the engine, the coolant level should go down and when releasing the pedal the coolant should raise back to normal level. I did that but the opposite happen. When I rev the engine, the coolant flow over the rad cap spot. When releasing the pedal the fluid goes back to normal. What does this mean? How else would I check if my water pump is working? Another thing I should mention is that I boiled my old thermo stat in a pot and it open and closed properly so I know it wasnt the thermo stat. I thought if a water pump was no good, it would just ceased and lock up. Also theres no leak or white smoke coming out of my exhaust. As of yet anyways.

Sup guys, I took my car into my private mechanic house and He discovered that my fan clutch is not working properly. Do you think this may be the problem?

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank god it wasnt a head gasket or a cracked head. Both my water pump and Fan clutch was not working. Got both replaced and now works like a dream.

congrats. start the clock and see how long itll be before the next component fails! so far im 9 months of no problems =)

fan that is connected to your upper pulley and rotates based on that..
