I'm going to attempt to attach these pictures, sry if it dont work. The first picture, i started up my s13 (KA24E with 122,000 miles) and let it run a bit, opened the hood and i noticed steam or some real faint smoke coming outta the area circled in the picture....like seeping out from behind the sheild thing....


oh and theres that old engine knocking noise, just might be cuz it is old but better safer then sorry and it shakes, not bad, but noticeably.....i dunno if it is anything to worry about tho....

 

i dunno, i've posted b4 about smoke coming out the exhaust, like whiteish smoke, smelling like a lawn mower, making your clothes smell like you just were outside mowing grass, lol.....so i guess it might be burning oil, i'mma get it looked at evenually, but i was gunna see if i could figure it out......also in the picture attched to this post is a shot of i guess the frame, above the exhaust, i just noticed it is a bit rusty lol, and i wanted to do an RB25DET engine swap evenually, but i wanted to make sure that kinda power wouldnt tear the car apart, LOL.....suggestions about either of these problems would be great, THANKS!

 

*UPDATED* Well seems the vavle cover is leaking out oil, i see it seeping out where the cover screws down, i'll try tightening but i might need a new one...? Steam i guess if just the heated oil seepin out onto the metal. I dunno if i posted this above but yes the motor is deff makin a ticking sound......dunno why....i also checked things and found i was missing i guess the big belt, i've attached a picture and was wondering what the 2 wheels not turning where for, one is the one above, the other is the one on the very bottom.......i was thinkin A/C and power steer? If anyones got this belt, and will let it go for cheap i'm interested it purchasing.......

 

The lawn motor smell is your oil leaking out of your valve cover on to the exhaust manifold. If you want to see where the oil is coming out of put some cooking flower around that area and then run the engine, when it starts turing brown or black that's were your leak is. The rattling sound is probably your timing chain guides they are probably worn and need replacing and the shaking could be a miss fire or try tightning all the clamps on your air intake from the throtle body to the air filter. the ticking sound could also be because you are low on oil because it has allleaked out, just my guess

 

would that also take in acount for the whiteish smoke that comes outta the exhaust when i rev it? Also, the oil in the 1st place needs to be changed i think...it is pretty old n has been sitting for like winter.....about being low on oil...i dunno the oil light hasnt come on?

 

Dude.... you should really try checking the oil using the dipstick in the engine bay. Using the oil light as a measuring tool is not really accurate at all. I think it only comes on when oil pressure is low and the oil would have to be very dangerously low to trigger the light.... not sure on that, but check the oil and add some if you need it.

 

well i use the dip stick of course, and it seems to be at the right level and what not, but i do think it's over due for an oil change.......can another tell me what those to wheels generate? Cuz i'm missin the big belt that goes around those 2, and was wonderin what they were for? or if another had that belt i could get? Also can someone tell me if the rust in that one picture would be a prob if i wanted to drop in an RB25DET which i do...

anytime i see white smoke out the exaust system the result is blown head gasket, does your car st-st-studder?

 

how do you mean? I need the engine shakes a bit, but i mean the whole car doesnt, and it revs just fine (with a few of your, every once in awhile pop back fires lol.....)

 

The smoke that comes out of your exhaust, what does it smell like, does it smell like something burning or does it have a sweet smell to it kind of like cotton candy? If it's a sweet smell you have an internal coolant leak. If it's smells like something buring you are burning oil. Either way you have a problem. If smoke comes out only after the car has been sitting for a few month's and it only comes out for like a minute then that could be just carbon build up in the engine or exhaust system.

 

it smells like a lawn mower. Now that smell that you smell like after you've cut grass....yeah it smells like that, so it might be burning oil....the oil is pretty old i think and it was leakin out of the vavle cover on the exhaust MAF i think....(u can see in those pics)
