Ok , here's my problem :

I have a 92 Fastback 5 - Spd with 209,000 miles on it . I recently replaced my O2 sensor and went ahead and hooked up an Air/Fuel ratio gauge . My guage never evens out , it just jumps back and forth from lean to rich really fast and the when I push in the clutch to shift or really get down on the gas I get no reading at all . When I'm idleing , sometimes it will sit on ideal and then sometimes it go to ideal , then to lean and back . I have the gauge wired up poperly and everything , I was just wondering if there was a reason it does this. Any advice will be much appreciated . So any ideas ?

they area rough readin anyway... best tuning is with wide band 02

 

like stated above, the only O2 sensor that should EVER be used for tuning, is the wideband type.

Crappy autometer/autogage/etc A/F meters rarely work right on 240s, and even when they do, they only measure the ratio at WOT, which is basically worthless. The computer is constantly adjusting hte A/F mixture anywhere below WOT, so you'll get innacurate readings that typically just result in the meter's reading just bouncing back and forth tween lean and rich.

Bottom Line:
Your gauge is like that by design, they're generally regarded as a "bling" value gauge with no actual redeeming qualities, other than it fills in a gauge pod if you've got an empty space If you want a gauge for tuning, wideband is the only acceptable solution.

see...i beg the differ. unless the fact that i have an sr is why mine works. i also have an afc so i corrected my fuel into the car so its stoich almost all the time

 

I'm SR also, mine is/was worthless.
Even if it did somewhat help, there is NO WAY i'm trusting something as important as my fuel mixture to a crappy $40 gauge that's know on ALL forums as being just a showpiece.

I just know from personal experience, as well as the consensus of many many others (just search on zilvia), you are the very first person I've heard of who has ever said anything remotely positive about them.

 

wierd...autometer(the gauge i have) is actually known to be the most precise air/feul gauge out there. oh well, before i had it tuned it eas never right, but because its hooked up to the o2 sensor signal wire its accurate...
like you said no big deal, thats what afc's and other air/fuel instruments are for, more precise reading

 

What's an afc ? Also , as it turns out I'm running rich . Any ideas what it is or how to fix ? Any answers will be most appreciated .

 

and afc is an air fuel controller. it would be best to get one of those and adjust your mixture as you need it. i set my " fuel corrections" were i need them in relation to throttle position. its pretty easy to do

 

Ok , thanx everyone . Any ideas on how to fix the runnin rich without spendin the 2 or 300 bucks for an afc ?
