free intake mod

im going to take out the intake resonator on my 240 tonight and was wondering if it is better to leave the y pipe in or take it out along with the resonator box? and whats the easiest way to access the box by removing the wheel?

it doesn't really matter much - the more you remove the louder it'll get on WOT, but that's about it

cut the front of the resonator. easy cold air feed. be sure to add mesh so you dont get leaves or anything blowing up

when you have an aftermarket intake you do not need to replace the resonator. Remove the Y-pipe, resonator, and cut off the bottom half of the air box, just leave enough for the clips to latch onto to hold the filter in place

You won't really need the FSM for it, heres some crappy pics of the airbox I just took with my phone

Don't have pics of the resonator but it will what the Y-pipe connects to, can't really miss it.

NO!
I hope you are joking, becasue whether there is a splash liner or not, you are GOING to get water into that. It is GOING to become a problem.
I seriously hope you haven't done this, if so please fix it.

The resonator is the box that the Y-pipe leads to. there are two out lets on the y-pipe. On goes to the headlight housing, and the other goes down to the resonator AKA the restrictor box.

To acces the resonator, jack the car up safely. Then remove the left front wheel. Carefully pull back the splash liner, and un bolt the box.
Incredibly easy job to do.

i cut the resonator box in addition to cutting the air box itself as s13 240 described. been running like this for over 2 years now. not too wet in socal.

If you're going to be "cheap" at least do it right and spend a minimum amount of money.

Remove everything before the MAF. Then remove the wheel and remove that box( you can put a NOs bottle, or ignition or sumthgin here hidden!!) Then go to Advance Auto parts, or Pep Boys. they have these "intake air filter adapters" which are pretty much universal, they cost 8$. Then mark your holes in it and drill away. then use the bolts from the original box and use them to hold the filter adapter. now asuming that since you where gona cut that plastic to take more air, you where gona buy a K&N filter to add the flow, you might as well buy any type of rounded intake filter such as K&N (which last forever) or even those "APC" will do better than the stock "cotton" thingy. then place that filter (20-30$?) in the adapter, and there: a good 3-4 ponies for 24$, which will severly increase air flow, sound and look better, than some plastic all cut off.

I went even cheaper, I used the inside of a roll of tape which was a cilindrical piece of plastic, and placed it inside the MAF, then placed a K&N filter ofer the excess plastic piece: no adaptor. now the filter....well it was for a V8 mustang and it was 80$. But Best performance part I've ever bought.
