fuel injectors

im new to modding so no flame please lol, just wondering in upgrading the fuel injectors will it reduce fuel efficiency noticably? i mean its pumping more fuel so im assuming fuel consumption is higher. also what is a good fuel injector upgrade for the sr20det im planning to get one swapped by summer 06

Switching to fuel injectors with a higher capacity will, with all other things being equal, make the car run richer. If you're using a stock ECU with a working oxygen sensor, it will try to compensate for this by reducing the amount of time the injectors are held open each cycle. But it only has so much leeway - once it's taken out as much pulsewidth as it can, that's it - the only way to make it any leaner is to reduce fuel pressure or run a piggyback control on the fuel injection system.

A side note - an injector swap won't make any power if the ones that are in there already can supply enough fuel. It's like getting a thicker extension cord for your computer and expecting it to run faster. Either the injectors are big enough, or they aren't.

unless you are uprading the turbo, the stock 370cc's will do you fine, if you run higher boost... boost controller maybe, or a newer, bigger turbo... you'll need to upgrade to 550's, 720's etc there's lots of options.

alright thanks for the awnsers guys but um hows fuel economy after i upgrade the injectors(with a sr20det and gt-rs 400ps turbo) will it get worst significantly compared to the stock injectors? also whats a piggyback is that like a fuel/air controller?

fuel economy with a det is like 20mpg, but that's with 91+ octane gas, 93+ preferrably... with big injectors and a big turbo, you have to run premium 93/94+ or race gas (100octane) and the mileage wont be to great... get a beater car if you can

Air/Fuel controller like the Apex SAFC lets you tune the amount of fuel going into your engine so you can fine tune. The SAFC is a piggyback, but a piggyback is essentially a computer than runs "on top of" the stock ecu. Lets you tune and change sh*t without doing a standalone system

okay so if the safc lets me tune how much fuel goes in what if i set the safc to its lowest setting along with the boost controller(1psi?) lol how much would i get on daily driving on the 550cc(i think) injectors and a 52T gt-rs turbo cuz im not planning on going any bigger than that. would i get a lil more than 20mpg?(which isnt so bad) the s14 is going to be my all purpose car for school, work, etc lol

ok, you dont want the safc at the lowest setting, cuase you'll run lean and blow your motor... there's no such thing as 1 psi, i mean there is, but you have to have a certain amount of pressure or you'll run rich. It sounds good on paper, but i'm pretty sure it would never work in real life. To quote everyone else - you have to pay to play... theres not a lot of shortcuts with cars, expecially turbo'd ones

Pay attention.

The injector size has NO BEARING ON FUEL ECONOMY for a properly-tuned engine.

The ONLY exception to this truth is if you use injectors that are so large that at idle, their minimum duty cycle still dumps more fuel than the engine needs, and it runs rich.
