Gauge Help

Well, im such as dipp-shit that i just cant leave things alone the way they are. So i got some cheap white faced gauges off of ebay and they have their own on/off switch to light up, that i dont really know how to get to work. When i took everything off i felt pretty good but when i took off the first needle i used a fork and the axle that the needle **** thing was on came out as well. When i did the second one only the needle **** came out and the axle thing stayed behind. Could i have messed up my hole speedo? And does anyone know how to wire the light?

I did the same thing. It'll be fine. Just dont force it down TOO far. Just eyeball the height with the rest of the needles.

Oh yea, as far as the gas gauge goes, make sure you put it EXACTLY where it was when you removed it. Currently, I am fighting with mine to get it positioned right. What I'm wanting to know, is where EXACTLY is the needle at when the fuel light comes on. Right now, when it comes on its just above 1/4 of a tank, and the car runs out of gas very shortly after.

The fuel gague is the only one you have to be worried about. The rest of them have auto balancing.

Well i took a picture of it before i did anything. The mph one seems to be working good because i drove down the road and felt like i was going 35. But my Rpm one doesnt go back to 0 when you turn it off. I either messed it up or something could be done.

Ok, your tach, it has an auto rest on it. Pull it off, and then reinstall the needle as close to 0 as you can. Then move the needle all the way around past pegged, it will drop and stay. Then just move it back to 0 and it should rest on the needle rest, and you should be fine.

BTW, can you do one of two things for me. With a FULL tank of gas (like RIGHT when you fill it up full, take a picture of your gas gauge for me, or right when your fuel light pops on, take a picture of your gauge for me. That way I know where I need to position my guage.

Also, if you know someone who wants a set of the El Glow gauges, I have a set I pulled off of my car. Will sell them for next to nothing.

Ill try to remember but i would say mine isnt the best because before it would never go right on the F mark. I say just feel it up and then set it. And my gas light has never came on, even when i was way under 1/4 of a tank. And when i pull out the rpm the needle and the little axle comes out instead of just the needle. Then never goes on zero when you turn it off.

Well, I would do that to my gas gauge... but a lot of cars even when you fill them up full completely the gauge reads way above the full mark. I really just need to fill up a 5 gallon gas can, drive the car around till its OUT of gas, pull my cluster, and fix it then while its on empty. LOL

ok....too both of you...

jake - for your rpm's. let the car idle. it should idle around 750. you need to carefully take out the needle stopper. and re-wind your needle so that it says 750 when you are in idle.

purple - your gas gauge. fill your tank all the way up, top it off to the max. take off your needle and you need to be very very very careful when reinstalling it. the reason for this is because when you start to attach it back to the pin as soon as the needle touches the the pin it pretty much stays there.
so position you needle to the full line and make sure you are steady. i used a pair of tweezers to hold the needle until i got it lined up then pushed it on the way. my gas light comes on when it is supposed to and the needle goes to full when i fill up.

i actually put mine on with a full tank and lined it up a little lower then it should have been, that way i never run out of gas and get my fuel filter all full of crud from the bottum of my tank.

Where does the needle read when the fuel light comes on, or should come on I guess you could say.

Well, I've messed around with the fuel gauge a little bit (way b4 all this was posted), and you can actually move that needle anywhere you want. It has 180 degree movement around, and once you hit that stop, you can push it around further, and it just alters where the stops are. Thats why my gauge isn't "correct". The problem was done by the previous owner.

BTW, generaly how many miles do you get to a tank of gas in your car? How many gallons is the tank?

I've got a few little other issues to take care of this week before I really start driving the car every day and actually "commit" to filling the gas tank up completely. LOL that sounds so bad. But, I know I need to replace my drivers rear brake caliper (its dragging and leaking ) and makes a horrible noise when driving. I also HAVE to get a shifter for this car. Gawd, the shifts seem like they are a mile long and SPONGY to say the very least. I'm going to have to pick up a B&M, but I'm wondering just how much of the spongyness the cheapo ones from eBay take out, and how much shorter the throws are.

yeah i was wondering the same thing about the B & M shifters on ebay or any ebay short shifter at that, Are they actually different then the expensive name brands? My rpm gauge also got ****ed up when i put my glow gauges in but w/e i'll buy a tach and put it infront of it or sumthing. It's to much work to take everything back out

Im pretty shure my rpm's is ****ed up. It sometimes doesnt even move. And when you rev it drops very slowly. Then turn the motor off and it stops at about 1k. Then turn the key again and drops a little bit more. A lot of bull**** for some little cheap *** ebay gauges.

The Rpm one seems to be working a little bit better now. Just after i turn off the car it drops to 1k and stops. Then i turn the key to ac. and it drops to 0.

you could have sliped the guages right over the old one. with out touching the needles. i broke an integra guage needle twice lol.

when i did mines i just slide them right on and put the lil screws in.
