getting her up to par, some ?s

i just got my s13 and it was having some problems... the previous owner put on some air filter with ducttape and some loud muffler tips. anyways the car wasnt running right it was sortof sluggish and it bogs down alot (especially in 5th), not to mention you can hear the intake (i think) sucking air when you accelerate. i noticed that the original air box was plugged to the emissions box/valve thing but it wasnt plugged into the air filter. the emissions thing had a couple sensors that ran toward the throttlebody area and a bypass that plugged into the exhaust header. i wasnt sure what all of that was for but i decided that it probably wouldnt hurt to take it all out since it wasnt plugged up anyways, the only thing that worried me was the sensors/wiring. so i took out the whole bracket, unplugged the wiring, and capped the exhaust bypass. is this good or bad for my car??? it seems to run a little better now, smoother with less bogging, but still somewhat sluggish. ive ordered an injen is intake and i plan on installing an extension a little later just for kicks (i will eventually swap motors, rb). will i have problems installing the intake or will i have problems in the future b/c i took that stuff out???

thats it for now... thanks

if your bogging is sporadic, pull the wires, and check ur spark plugs for gap, check the wires for damage, etc.

yea i need to get new plug wires... i changed the distributor cap and rotor and all the wire ends looked messy.

also, like 80% of the time when im driving i cant rev up to 4500 b/c i will get LOUD OBNOXIOUS screeching/squeeling/"skeet" sounds from under the hood...

i thought it was the belt (dont know the name of it) so i tried to tighten the bolt thing to adjust the belt tension.... well i made like 10 turns and i still got the sound, so i started tightening more then the bolt got really easy, and i noticed that i broke it in two...
my valve cover leaks a liiiittle oil and my next guess is that maybe the sound has to do with the gasket!???

any ideas?

thanks

yea its all about having good connections and air/fuel...so if it bogs..check vacuum lines....change fuel filter...check plugs and wires...clean connectors....clean tb and all of the stuff you can clean or replace...should have the car run very nicely...goodluck either way.

plugs, wires, and air or vacumn leaks may be the problem. for the belt tensioner i think you have to loosen the bolt on the side of the braket before you turn the tightening bolt for the belt tensioner. for future reference....
